REPORT: Hollywood Star Planning To ‘Quit America’ One Year Into Trump’s Second Administration

Angelina Jolie is quietly winding down her life in the United States, fueling reports that the Hollywood A-lister is preparing to leave the country one year into President Donald Trump’s second administration.

The actress, 50, recently sold the New York City apartment she had owned since 1997, according to property records, and is widely expected to put her $24.5 million Los Angeles mansion on the market next. The moves have reignited speculation about Jolie’s finances, her long-running legal battles and her stated desire to live abroad.

Jolie transferred ownership of her Upper West Side condo on July 18, 2025, though the sale was not officially recorded until Aug. 4. The buyer was listed as Ansoniasix, LLC. While the deed did not disclose a price, real estate estimates place the value of the unit at roughly $1.8 million. Jolie purchased the apartment in December 1997 for $490,000 and took out a $343,000 mortgage at the time. The unit underwent an interior renovation in 2022 valued at $35,200.

In a March 2025 interview, Jolie said one of her sons was using the Manhattan apartment as a “crash pad.” That son is believed to be Maddox, now 24. Jolie shares six children with Brad Pitt: Maddox, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 19, and 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

On the West Coast, Jolie owns the historic Cecil B. DeMille estate in Los Angeles, a six-bedroom, 10-bathroom property she bought in 2017. Pitt loaned her $8 million toward the purchase, according to court filings. Multiple reports have said Jolie is preparing to sell the home as she looks to relocate overseas.

Jolie has openly discussed wanting to leave California. She previously told The Hollywood Reporter that she remained in the state only because it was a condition of her divorce settlement and said she would move once all of her children turned 18. Her twins will reach that milestone this summer.

As for where she plans to go, Jolie has been clear. She told the publication she intends to “spend a lot of time in Cambodia.” She adopted Maddox from Cambodia in 2002 and later bought a traditional wooden home there, followed by more than 148,000 acres to create a wildlife preserve.

In August, a source told People magazine that Jolie was “eyeing several locations abroad,” including Cambodia, France and parts of Africa. Jolie added, “I’ll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world.”

But leaving Los Angeles would come with trade-offs. A source told the Daily Mail that moving away would likely mean spending less time with some of her children, who “have settled into their own lives and are usually doing their own thing away from their mother.”

“They have their groups of friends, school activities, hobbies that have taken years to get used to, especially after their parents’ divorce,” the source said. “Knox, for one, is not leaving [LA] anytime soon. He’s very involved in Muay Thai training and is practically a full-time fighter. He has no plans to leave and wants to become an instructor once he graduates.”

Meanwhile, Shiloh has established herself as a choreographer in Los Angeles, and Zahara is expected to graduate from Spellman College in Atlanta later this year.

Behind the scenes, financial pressure may also be playing a role. Gossip columnist Rob Shuter claimed earlier this year that Jolie is “struggling to keep her lifestyle in Los Angeles.”

“She’s not broke, but she’s not exactly swimming in cash either,” a source allegedly told him. “The legal battle with Brad over Miraval has drained her accounts faster than anyone imagined.”

A Hollywood attorney familiar with the case added that legal costs have been “astronomical.”

“Every hearing, every lawyer, every filing, it’s like throwing money into a bonfire. Even someone like Angelina feels it,” the attorney said.

Jolie and Pitt finalized their divorce on Dec. 30, 2024, but remain locked in a bitter fight over Château Miraval, the $500 million French winery they once shared. Pitt sued Jolie after she sold her stake in the winery without his consent, and the case is scheduled for trial in February 2027.

Jolie is also facing additional legal and financial challenges, including a trademark dispute over her Manhattan boutique, Atelier Jolie, and underperforming finances at the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which reported negative revenue in 2024.

Taken together, the sale of her New York property, plans to unload her Los Angeles mansion and repeated statements about living overseas have intensified reports that Jolie is preparing to leave the United States altogether, marking another high-profile Hollywood figure signaling an exit during Donald Trump’s second term.

Representatives for Jolie did not respond to requests for comment.
