‘Breaking Bad’ Star Loses It, Calls For Armed Revolution In Bizarre Rant
“Breaking Bad” star Giancarlo Esposito used the Sundance Film Festival spotlight to launch a fiery political broadside, declaring it was “time for a revolution” as controversy swirls over Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in Minnesota.
Esposito made the remarks on Jan. 27 while walking the red carpet for the premiere of his new crime thriller, “The Only Living Pickpocket in New York.” In an interview with Variety, the actor directly referenced ICE and the broader political unrest following the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti during federal operations earlier this month.
“This is time for a revolution, and they don’t even know that’s what they’re starting,” Esposito said. “We have to stand up to it. They can’t take us all down.”
The actor went further, drawing comparisons between mass protest movements and authoritarian regimes.
“If the whole world showed up on Putin’s doorstep or the Iranians’ doorstep or in Washington, they’d kill 500 or 50 million or however many, but the rest of us would survive with a new world,” Esposito said, according to Variety.
He continued with sharp criticism of political and economic power structures, saying, “Some very rich old white men are exerting their power to suppress our own people, thus creating a feeling of civil war in the streets, preparing the haters to hate, teaching them how to shoot.”

Esposito warned that current events were building toward something darker.
“This is all a preparation for a very insidious problem that’s happening in our world,” he said.
The actor said he felt compelled to speak out publicly.
“And for me, I have to speak out. We will not be ICE’d out. This is not going to happen,” Esposito told Variety.
The comments came as several celebrities used the Sundance stage to signal opposition to federal immigration enforcement. Multiple attendees wore “ICE Out” pins, including Esposito’s co-star Tatiana Maslany, who also sported a pin reading “Artists for Ceasefire,” the outlet reported.
The rhetoric added to growing criticism from Hollywood figures as tensions continue to rise over immigration enforcement and public safety nationwide.
