NEW: Police Investigate Septic Tank Behind Nancy Guthrie’s Home

Police searching for Savannah Guthrie’s missing mother, Nancy, examined a septic tank behind her Tucson home over the weekend, as the baffling case entered its second week with no suspects identified.

Drone footage showed investigators opening a manhole cover in the backyard Sunday, with three detectives lowering a long pole into the tank. Authorities have not said what prompted the search or what they were attempting to recover. An official police vehicle was also seen parked outside the home around 11 a.m. local time.

Investigators left the property without announcing any findings. It remains unclear whether the septic tank had been searched previously.

The renewed activity came as law enforcement reiterated that no suspects or persons of interest have been identified in the disappearance of the 84-year-old grandmother.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen more than a week ago after being dropped off at her home by her daughter and son-in-law. Police have said the circumstances surrounding her disappearance are suspicious but have offered few public details.

The search unfolded against the backdrop of an alleged ransom note sent to several news outlets, demanding $6 million in bitcoin by 5 p.m. local time Monday. Authorities have not verified the authenticity of the letter, though it reportedly included specific details about Nancy’s home.

Over the weekend, Savannah Guthrie released a second video appeal alongside her siblings, saying they had received a message from the alleged abductors.

“We have received your message and we understand,” the “Today” show co-host said in the video shared with her 1.5 million Instagram followers.

“We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her,” she added.

Investigators have continued to comb through tips and evidence as the search intensifies, but officials have stressed the case remains wide open.
