NEW: Hillary Clinton Claims Ignorance When Asked Why Ghislaine Maxwell Attended Her Daughter’s Wedding

While taking questions from reporters after her closed-door deposition before the House Oversight Committee on Thursday, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was asked why Ghislaine Maxwell — the convicted sex-trafficker and Jeffrey Epstein’s former mistress — was a guest at her daughter’s wedding in 2010.

“Why was Ghislaine Maxwell at Chelsea’s wedding?” the former secretary was asked shortly after the deposition wrapped up. “She came as plus one with a guest who was invited,” Clinton responded shortly before the press conference wrapped up.

Maxwell’s attendance at the July 31, 2010, wedding in Rhinebeck, New York, has been a point of public interest since photos emerged years later. Clinton claimed that Maxwell was not directly invited, but rather attended as a plus one with Ted Waitt, a technology entrepreneur and significant donor to the Clinton Foundation, who was her romantic partner at the time.

The event was a private affair attended by several hundred guests, including political figures and philanthropists. Clinton has consistently described her interactions with Maxwell as limited and has said she had no prior knowledge of Epstein’s crimes. “I only knew Maxwell as an acquaintance,” the former secretary said.

Despite the former secretary’s claims, Maxwell has attended at least one additional wedding with the Clinton family.

According to a report from the New York Post, former President Bill Clinton insisted on bringing Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell as his additional guests to the royal wedding of Moroccan King Mohammed VI’s wedding in 2002.

An exclusive photo obtained by the outlet purportedly shows Clinton posing with Epstein, Maxwell, and his daughter Chelsea in a group at the event. Sources cited in the report described Clinton pushing for their inclusion, with one calling it “totally crazy” given the context of royal protocol.

Hillary Clinton’s post-deposition interaction with the media was brief but covered several topics related to the day’s proceedings and her knowledge of Epstein. She repeatedly claimed to have no knowledge or involvement of Epstein’s crimes, saying, “I answered every one of their questions as fully as I could based on what I knew. And what I knew is what I said in my statement this morning. I never met Jeffrey Epstein, never had any connection or communication with him.”

When pressed on her familiarity with Epstein, she added, “I had no idea about their criminal activities. I do not recall ever encountering Mr. Epstein. I never flew on his plane or visited his island, homes or offices. I have nothing to add to that.”

She also critiqued the committee’s process and claimed the deposition was politically motivated. “This institutional failure is designed to protect one political party and one public official,” Clinton said, insinuating that President Donald Trump was somehow involved in Epstein’s crimes despite mountains of evidence to the contrary.

The deposition itself lasted more than six hours, beginning in the morning and concluding in the late afternoon at the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center in New York. It was briefly paused after U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) leaked a photo from the room, though questioning eventually resumed and continued as planned.

Former President Bill Clinton is set to testify in a similar closed-door session on Friday.
