WATCH: GOP Senator Physically Removes Protester From Hearing

A viral video shows U.S. Senator Tim Sheehy (R-MT) helping Capitol Police to physically remove a protester from a Senate Armed Services hearing on Wednesday.

Footage from the scene shows Brian McGinnis, a Marine Corps veteran and Green Party candidate for Senate in North Carolina, being removed from the hearing by U.S. Capitol Police. McGinnis had disrupted the hearing to protest ongoing U.S. military action in Iran during the hearing.

The video, which was filmed by an anti-war activist, shows McGinnis accusing lawmakers of supporting a “war for Israel” as Capitol Police officers were escorting him out. McGinnis refused to budge, at which point Sheehy and a group of Capitol Police officers began to physically remove him from the chamber.

“No one wants to fight for Israel!” McGinnis repeatedly shouted as he was being removed. A bystander then pointed out that McGinnis’ hand appeared to be stuck in the door, at which point the group slowed down in order to remove it.

McGinnis’ fellow anti-war protesters then accused Sheehy of “breaking” McGinnis’ hand.

Sheehy later addressed the incident in a social media post.

“Capitol Police were attempting to remove an unhinged protestor from the Armed Services hearing. He was fighting back. I decided to help out and deescalate the situation,” the senator posted on X. “This gentleman came to the Capitol looking for a confrontation, and he got one. I hope he gets the help he needs without causing further violence,” he added.

Sheehy, a freshman senator who unseated three-term Democrat incumbent Jon Tester in 2024, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2004 before later completing SEAL training. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2012, where he was wounded in combat and received a Purple Heart.

He also received a Bronze Star with “V” device for valor in 2015, which was presented by then-Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-MT), who announced his retirement from Congress earlier this week.
