White House Locked Down After Van Smashes Into Front Gate

A driver rammed a van into a security gate near the White House early Wednesday, triggering an immediate lockdown response and road closures around the complex.

The crash happened just after 6:30 a.m. at a barricade near Connecticut Avenue and H Street NW, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. No injuries were reported.

The driver was detained by the U.S. Secret Service and is being questioned, officials said. Authorities did not immediately say whether the incident was accidental or intentional, and details about possible charges were not released.

The collision comes as federal officials remain on high alert amid a wave of security incidents following President Donald Trump’s decision to launch military operations against Iran. In recent days, attacks and attempted attacks have rattled multiple U.S. cities, pushing law enforcement to harden security around high-profile targets.

Over the weekend, two suspects accused of being inspired by ISIS allegedly hurled improvised explosive devices near a protest close to New York City’s mayoral residence, Gracie Mansion. In Texas, the day after the first U.S. strikes on Iran, an Islamist gunman opened fire at a bar in Austin, killing three people and wounding 15 others, according to reports.

Officials have also pointed to incidents beyond U.S. borders, including a shooting at the U.S. consulate in Toronto on Tuesday morning.

The elevated threat climate has prompted tighter security measures for top Trump administration officials. Attorney General Pam Bondi, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have reportedly moved into secure military housing as the conflict intensifies and warnings about potential retaliation continue.

Secret Service personnel remained on scene Wednesday morning as the area around the White House complex stayed restricted and investigators worked to determine exactly what led the driver to breach the barrier.
