Beloved MAGA Rep. Calls Out ‘Corrupt’ Senators Over SAVE Act Stalling
U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) for the Republican Senate conference after Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) backtracked on plans to pass a popular election integrity bill and claimed those in favor of the legislation were being led by “paid influencers.”
Thune had previously indicated that he would explore the possibility of deploying the “talking” filibuster, an older Senate procedure that requires dissenting members to physically debate any piece of legislation they wish to oppose. This presents increased difficulty for dissenters, as they would be hindered by the chamber’s two-speech limit and physical exhaustion.
Under the current arraignment, dissenting Senators can block a piece of legislation if it fails to obtain 60 votes. This do-nothing arraignment is commonly known as the “zombie” filibuster.
Failure to deploy the talking filibuster would essentially mean that the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, a House-passed election integrity bill that includes voter ID requirements, is essentially dead on arrival. Under the talking filibuster, it could pass with a simple majority of 51 votes, which would include Vice President JD Vance if possible.
Rep. Luna — who has emerged as one of the most vocal proponents of the bill in the House — slammed Republican senators and the institution as a whole due to failures to pass the overwhelmingly popular legislation. “The Senate is corrupt,” Luna posted on X.
“Too many senators are owned by special interests and corporations. Why do you think they are working so hard against one of the most popular issues in the country? Voter ID. The President understands how important VOTER ID is,” she continued. The congresswoman then suggested that she and a number of House Republicans are prepared to take action if the Senate fails to pass the bill.
“FISA is a must pass piece of legislation. The House MUST ATTACH SAVE AMERICA ACT to FISA,” the congresswoman went on to say. Luna was speaking in reference to The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, an important but controversial piece of legislation relating to surveillance on individuals, including citizens, thought to be involved with foreign adversaries.
The legislation must be renewed periodically.

The SAVE ACT, which has already passed in the House, requires individuals to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship, such as a passport or birth certificate, when registering to vote in federal elections. It amends the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 by mandating that states verify citizenship in person and prohibits registration without such documentation.
The bill also directs states to establish alternative processes for applicants lacking standard documents and enhances voter list maintenance to remove noncitizens.
