Gut-Wrenching Footage Shows Tragic Plane Crash At LaGuardia Airport

New video footage is giving Americans a gut-level look at the deadly runway collision at New York’s LaGuardia Airport that left two pilots dead and dozens injured.

The crash involved an Air Canada Express CRJ-900 arriving from Montreal and a Port Authority fire truck on the field. The regional jet is operated by Jazz Aviation, Air Canada’s regional partner. Authorities said the pilot and co-pilot were killed in the impact.

A Port Authority spokesperson said more than 39 passengers and crew members, along with two Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting officers, were taken to the hospital. Port Authority Executive Director Kathryn Garcia told reporters that at least 32 people have since been released, but some suffered “serious injuries.”

Jazz Aviation said the aircraft was carrying 72 passengers and four crew members, citing a preliminary passenger list. U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy’s office confirmed to Fox News Digital that the flight’s crew consisted of the captain, first officer and two flight attendants.

One passenger, Jack Cabot, described the terrifying seconds after touchdown. “The plane landed pretty hard, you heard a loud bang and suddenly everything was out of control. The plane was veering back and forth. No one was driving at that point.”

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop at LaGuardia after the collision, and officials said the airport was expected to remain closed until 2 p.m. Monday as investigators and emergency crews worked the scene.

By late morning, stranded travelers were spread out across the terminals with luggage piled at their feet, watching phones and departure boards for updates. The airport had been nearly empty earlier in the day, but activity gradually picked up as passengers arrived hoping flights would resume.

There were no long security lines around midday, as operations moved slowly and cautiously ahead of the planned reopening. Even so, the departure board remained dominated by cancellations, with only a handful of flights showing updated departure times after 2 p.m. local time. Among them were American 3326 to Palm Beach, listed for 2:30 p.m., and United 2371 to Houston, listed for 3:20 p.m., as more revised times began to populate the board.

The collision marks the first fatal accident at LaGuardia since 1992. Audio from the air traffic tower has drawn renewed scrutiny, with reports suggesting controllers may have been distracted by an earlier incident at the airport, according to the New York Times. Investigators are expected to review communications, runway movements and on-field procedures as they work to determine how a passenger jet and emergency vehicle ended up on a crash course.
