NEW: Florida Airport To Be Officially Renamed After President Donald Trump
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Monday signed legislation authorizing the renaming of Palm Beach International Airport, commonly known as PBI, to the President Donald J. Trump International Airport.
The bill, designated HB 919, had cleared the Florida Legislature in the previous month, which made DeSantis’ signature the final step for full state authorization. Efforts to rename the airport began in early 2026. Republican lawmakers introduced the measure in January, with the Florida House of Representatives approving it by an 81-30 vote around February 17 and the Senate following with a 25-11 vote on February 19
The bill amends existing state statutes that codify names for several major Florida airports, explicitly designating the facility in West Palm Beach as the President Donald J. Trump International Airport. It also allocates state resources to support rebranding costs, which Palm Beach County officials have estimated could reach as much as $5.5 million for new signage, uniforms, promotional materials, and related updates.
The legislation further requires Palm Beach County to execute a licensing agreement with the Trump Organization for use of the name at no cost to the county or state.
“President Donald J. Trump’s impact on our nation will transcend our time; a historic legacy of dedication and commitment toward the American people. He’s called Palm Beach County ‘home’ for many years, and this designation reflects our gratitude for his public service and leadership,” said U.S. Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL).
The change will take effect on July 1, 2026, provided the Federal Aviation Administration completes required administrative updates to charts, databases, and operational identifiers, which may include a new three-letter code of DJT. Once the FAA approves the change, all official government records, maps, and aviation references will reflect the new name.
The airport, which serves as a key gateway for commercial and private flights in South Florida, has operated under the name Palm Beach International since 1948, when it was renamed from Morrison Field.

President Trumpm aintains a longstanding connection to Palm Beach County. He has been an official resident of Palm Beach since 2019, when he designated Mar-a-Lago as his primary residence.
The president spends extensive time at the Mar-a-Lago resort and club, which is located approximately four miles from the airport. The property serves as both a private club and a venue for events, and Trump frequently uses the estate as his winter White House.
He is also heavily involved with the thriving golf operations in the region, including courses managed under the Trump Organization umbrella, one of which is located in West Palm Beach.
