BREAKING: Trump Fires Top Cabinet Official
President Donald Trump has reportedly already fired Attorney General Pam Bondi, marking a dramatic shake-up at the top of the Justice Department as tensions inside the administration appear to have reached a breaking point.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Bondi was informed of her removal during a Wednesday night meeting in the Oval Office—just hours before Trump delivered a national address on the ongoing Iran conflict.
One source said that by the time Trump stepped behind the podium for that speech, Bondi was already out of a job and on her way back to Florida according to Fox News.
The sudden move follows weeks of mounting speculation that Bondi’s tenure was in jeopardy. Behind the scenes, sources say Trump had grown increasingly frustrated with her performance, particularly on issues that matter most to his political base.
Now, attention is turning to who could replace her.
Multiple sources indicate that Trump is strongly considering Lee Zeldin, currently serving as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, as a potential successor. Trump reportedly met with Zeldin at the White House earlier this week, where discussions about wildfire prevention also turned toward a possible transition at the Justice Department.

One individual familiar with that meeting described Zeldin as a “plausible replacement,” while cautioning that Trump could ultimately change course at any time.
When pressed on the reported firing, a White House source declined to confirm the move outright, but told Fox News the situation was “not cold”—a cryptic remark suggesting the reports may carry weight.
Publicly, however, Trump had struck a far different tone just hours earlier.
“Attorney General Pam Bondi is a wonderful person and she is doing a good job,” Trump said in a statement released Wednesday, echoing similar comments previously provided to media outlets amid reports of internal dissatisfaction.
The timing of the reported ouster is notable. Just hours before her firing, Bondi accompanied Trump to the U.S. Supreme Court for oral arguments in a high-stakes case involving birthright citizenship—underscoring how quickly the situation appears to have shifted.
Earlier reporting throughout the day had already pointed to trouble. Prediction markets saw a sharp surge in bets that Bondi would soon be removed from her post. That speculation appears to have been fueled by internal frustrations on two key fronts.
First, Bondi had reportedly faced criticism from within Trump’s orbit for not moving aggressively enough against the administration’s political opponents—a priority that has remained central to Trump’s agenda.
Second, her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files created friction behind the scenes. Her public comments at times clashed with messaging from other administration officials, including Trump himself, adding to concerns about alignment within the Justice Department.
The controversy surrounding those files has drawn scrutiny from both sides of the aisle, with lawmakers questioning the release of heavily redacted documents and whether key details were withheld.
Bondi was also facing mounting legal and political pressure, including a planned deposition tied to a House Oversight Committee subpoena related to the Epstein investigation.
Her removal will mark another high-profile personnel shift within Trump’s Cabinet in recent weeks, signaling a willingness by the president to recalibrate his administration as tensions rise both domestically and abroad.
