Woke Actors Humiliated After Shoveling Thousands To Swalwell’s Now-Defunct Campaign
Eric Swalwell loved rubbing elbows with Hollywood’s woke elite. They returned the favor by cutting checks for his now-dead bid for California governor.
Before his campaign fizzled out Sunday, the left-leaning congressman hauled in more than $100,000 from entertainment industry donors, according to records cited in the report. But with Swalwell’s run over and his future in Washington suddenly in doubt, the celebrity crowd that helped bankroll him has gone conspicuously quiet.
Swalwell’s donor list reads like a who’s-who of progressive Hollywood, including Sean Penn, Robert De Niro and Jane Fonda.
Penn, a frequent Trump critic, gave $15,000, records show. De Niro chipped in $10,000. “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm and “Two and a Half Men” actor Jon Cryer also donated $10,000 each, the report said.
The report also pointed to contributions from producers and executives, including “White Lotus” producer David Bernad, who donated a combined $20,000. It also cited producers Shawn Ryan and Alex Baskin as donors. D-list comedian Kathy Griffin gave $10,000, and Creative Artists Agency CEO Bryan Lourd added $12,500.
Emails to the celebrities’ representatives were not immediately returned, the report said.
Swalwell’s status took a dramatic turn Monday when he announced he was resigning from Congress, according to the report. The resignation also effectively ends his campaign for governor. The report ties that collapse to a “growing sexual assault scandal,” citing allegations that Swalwell raped and sexually harassed women. Those claims have not been adjudicated in court.
Billionaire Stephen Cloobeck, one of the Democratic Party’s biggest donors has announced that he’s abandoning the party, claiming a complete loss of trust following Eric Swalwell’s actions.

A blame game is now bubbling up in the entertainment world, with one insider telling Page Six that Swalwell’s behavior was an open secret.
“There are a lot of powerful people in this city that validated this guy and enabled him to get as far as he did,” an LA political consultant told Page Six.
The same consultant said Swalwell’s behavior “wasn’t some huge secret.” They added: “Hollywood needs to take a hard look in the mirror because this community, right or wrong, is still essential in determining who gets to have power in this country and in this state.”

The report also described Swalwell as a reliable presence at Hollywood events, saying he regularly skipped House votes to mingle at premieres and entertainment parties, including the February premiere of “White Lotus” in Los Angeles.
Now, with Swalwell out, Democrats are scrambling to lock down the donor class he courted. The report said the race includes eight Democrats, including former Rep. Katie Porter, billionaire Tom Steyer, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan and former state Attorney General Xavier Becerra.

Porter, the report noted, received $7,600 from Fonda, while actress Rene Russo and TV producer Marcy Carsey donated a combined $20,000.
For the Hollywood donors who helped fuel Swalwell’s short-lived run, the question is simple: Who gets the next round of checks, and who gets left holding the bag.
