WATCH: Top Actress Says She Doesn’t Understand White Women Who Voted For Trump
Elizabeth Banks is taking aim at the women who helped send President Donald Trump back to the White House, saying she “doesn’t understand” why most white female voters backed him over then-Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024.
The actress made the comments during a Bustle podcast episode posted Tuesday and first reported by Variety, using her Hunger Games character as a political template and urging women to fight what she called a “fascist regime.”
“Effie is the model, guys. I don’t understand the 53% of White ladies that didn’t vote for Kamala. What were you thinking?” Banks said.
Banks played Effie Trinket in the original Hunger Games franchise, including Catching Fire and Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2. In the series, Effie starts out as a polished cheerleader for the Capitol, then eventually breaks with the ruling system.
Banks argued that arc should be a lesson for voters now.
Banks urged American women to follow suit, saying, “I wish more of us were becoming revolutionaries.”
“Effie, for me, is one of the characters that has the greatest arc that I’ve ever played because, obviously, she props up this fascist regime that she benefits from,” Banks said.
“It’s not until she really comes to care for and see how unfair it is when they want to pull Katniss and Peeta into the games again.”
Post-election analysis from the Pew Research Center found a majority of white women voted for Trump in 2024, a reality Banks openly questioned as she continued promoting Harris-style messaging after the election.

Banks campaigned for Harris late in the race, including a stop in Las Vegas tied to abortion policy messaging. She posted about that event on Instagram in the final stretch of the campaign.
“19 DAYS until we elect @kamalaharris President of the United States! I joined my friends at @reproforallnv yesterday and jumped on Kamala’s Reproductive Freedom Bus in Las Vegas,” Banks wrote.
“Our rights, our freedom, and our access to health care are literally at stake. Please please please check your registration status and make a plan for Election Day. 19 days! Let’s go!” she added.
Banks won’t reprise Effie in the next Hunger Games installment. Actress Elle Fanning is set to play a younger version of the character in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, slated to premiere this fall.
“Nobody in their right mind cares what out-of-touch woke celebrities in Hollywood say or think,” White House spokesman Davis Ingle said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
