JUST IN: 911 Call Reveals Chilling New Details From Top Democrat’s Murder-Suicide

A chilling 911 call is shedding new light on the chaotic moments after former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax allegedly shot and killed his wife, then turned the gun on himself inside the family’s Annandale home.

Fairfax, a Democrat and former federal prosecutor, is accused of killing his wife, Cerina Fairfax, early Thursday in their $1 million residence before dying by suicide, according to authorities and reporting on the audio obtained by the Daily Mail.

In the call, the couple’s 16-year-old son, Cameron, is described by a dispatcher as frantic after finding his mother on the floor, bleeding and unresponsive. The dispatcher relayed that Cameron initially believed his father “might have stabbed his mom,” but then said he could “see holes in her shirt,” suggesting she had been shot.

Cameron told dispatchers he did not know where his father was, according to the audio.

When first responders arrived, they found Cerina Fairfax in the home’s unfinished basement, unconscious and bleeding, authorities said. A medic at the scene told dispatch, “The husband’s not gonna be here. It’s gonna look like an obvious D.O.A.,” adding the victim “doesn’t have a pulse.”

Police later located Justin Fairfax, 47, in a bedroom with a firearm. He appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, investigators said.

The couple’s two children, Cameron and 14-year-old Carys, were home during the incident but were not physically harmed. Officials said relatives and victim services are assisting them.

Fairfax County Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public as detectives continue investigating the circumstances leading up to the deaths. Autopsies are expected to determine the official causes of death.

Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis told reporters the couple had been married for 20 years but were navigating what he described as a seemingly “complicated or messy divorce.”

“It is high profile in nature, it’s tragic in nature. Certainly a fall from grace for a relatively high profile family that seemingly had a lot of things going in their favor,” Davis said. “So tragic for the children to lose both parents, extra tragic for them to actually be in the home when it occurred.”

Police said Cerina Fairfax, 49, filed for divorce last year. Court appearances were scheduled for next week, and investigators said Fairfax had recently been served paperwork about the upcoming proceedings, which they believe “may have been a spark” for the violence.

Authorities said the couple had been living in the same home despite being separated and were believed to have separate bedrooms. They had reportedly been separated since June 2024.

Davis also said officers responded to the home in January after Fairfax alleged his wife assaulted him. Investigators determined the alleged assault did not occur and no arrests were made, police said.

Justin Fairfax served as Virginia’s lieutenant governor from 2018 to 2022 under then-Gov. Ralph Northam. His political career was later overshadowed by sexual assault allegations from two women during his 2021 gubernatorial bid, which he denied. Cerina Fairfax stood by him during that period.

Cerina Fairfax ran a family dentistry practice in northern Virginia and was recognized by Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Dentistry in 2015 as its most outstanding alumna of the last decade, according to the report.

Virginia’s Democratic senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine said they were praying for the family, “especially their two children,” while current Lt. Gov. Ghazala Hashmi called the deaths devastating and said her thoughts were with the children and loved ones.
