U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has referred allegations of misconduct against Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) due to his close relationship with disgraced Rep. Eric Swalwell, who resigned earlier this week after being accused of sexual misconduct — including sexual assault — by multiple women.

“[It] seems like the Senate has its own trash to take out. [John Thune] You need to look into the allegations against one of your Senators, it’s very disturbing. My chief will be contacting your chief,” Luna posted on X while tagging Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD).

The post did not name the senator, though Luna did confirm she was referencing Senator Gallego in a follow-up interview with CBS News’ Major Garrett. She stated that some of the allegations are “sexual in nature” and some involve alleged campaign finance violations. Luna added that “there is a woman that allegedly is coming forward with attorneys [and] wants to go on-record about an incident that occurred between the two of them at the same time, and the event was sexual in nature, allegedly.”

I think any time that you are knowingly engaging in purchasing someone for sex, that that is something that should be taken seriously.” Luna further noted that Gallego referred to himself as Swalwell’s “best friend” and maintained close ties with him prior to the allegations.

Additional details on the allegations have not been released as of this report.

The news comes on the heels of recent sexual misconduct allegations that led to Swalwell’s resignation from the House and withdrawal from the California governor’s race. Multiple women accused Swalwell of sexual assault, harassment, and predatory behavior.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is investigating one of the allegations of sexual assault, and the House Ethics Committee opened its own probe prior to Swalwell’s resignation. The former congressman has owned up to “mistakes” but has vehemently denied the allegations against him.

Gallego, who chaired Swalwell’s 2020 presidential campaign and described him as a close family friend, stated he had no knowledge of the specific allegations of assault, harassment, or predatory behavior. He did, however, acknowledge hearing general rumors that Swalwell could be “flirty” but said he viewed Swalwell differently based on personal interactions, including family time.

Gallego remarked that he “messed up” by trusting Swalwell and expressed support for believing the women who came forward while calling for justice.

The senator has denied any personal misconduct and dismissed the allegations against him as “right-wing conspiracy theories.”
