BREAKING: Trump Evacuated After Reports Of Shots Fired At WH Correspondents’ Dinner
President Donald Trump and his entire cabinet were evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington D.C. after reports of shots fired on Saturday night.
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins reported that the incident occurred just after the event began. Collins reported hearing “loud bangs” before a large contingent of Secret Service agents swarmed the venue with weapons drawn.
The CNN correspondent further reported that the president and most of his cabinet members were onstage at the time of the incident. They were promptly removed from the ballroom of the Washington Hilton hotel.
CNN’s Brian Stelter and Manu Raju further reported that the shots seemingly originated from the back of the room, potentially near the lobby. Β At 8:54 p.m. Eastern Time, CNN reported, citing a Secret Service source, that President Trump is safe and was evacuated without harm.
The venue remains on lockdown as of 8:54 p.m. Eastern Time. Around that time, patrons could be seen being escorted out of the ballroom by security personnel.
Not long after, an announcement was given to the crowd that the “program would resume shortly.” That announcement was soon conveyed on-stage, when remaining attendees were told that the program would be resuming “momentarily.”
The announcement added that additional details on the incident would be provided shortly.
