Media’s Sick Report About Tulsi Gabbard’s Departure Rapidly Debunked

In a sharp rebuttal to media speculation, the Trump administration has pushed back against claims that Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard was ousted from her position amid internal tensions.

The controversy erupted on May 22, following Gabbard’s announcement of her resignation, which she attributed entirely to a personal family crisis. Major outlets, including Reuters, highlighted both her stated reasons and anonymous sourcing suggesting deeper White House dissatisfaction.

The Reuters report detailed Gabbard’s resignation as Trump’s top intelligence official, noting her public explanation tied to her husband’s health. However, the article prominently featured an anonymous source familiar with the situation who asserted that “Gabbard had been forced out by the White House.”

The source claimed the administration had grown unhappy with Gabbard over several months, citing issues such as the activities of her Director’s Initiatives Group task force and perceived frictions on national security matters, including aspects of U.S. policy toward Iran.

Reuters noted that the White House initially did not respond to requests for comment on the forced-out narrative, fueling immediate online debate and criticism of media coverage.

White House officials quickly pushed back on social media. In a direct statement posted on X, White House spokesperson Davis R. Ingle — quoting and echoing President Trump — offered the administration’s unequivocal denial.

“Tulsi Gabbard is an America First patriot who has served this country faithfully and extremely well over the last 16 months. As the President said, she is stepping aside to ensure that her husband becomes better than ever before. Any suggestion that the White House forced her to resign over her husband’s health is slanderous,” Ingle said.

When announcing her resignation, Gabbard explained that she would be stepping aside following her husband’s tragic medical diagnosis. “My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. He faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months ahead, and I need to be by his side to support him through this difficult time,” she said.

Gabbard, a former Democrat congresswoman from Hawaii who aligned with Trump and became a key America First voice, described her 16-month tenure as one of significant progress in reforming the intelligence community. President Trump echoed this praise on Truth Social, stating Gabbard had done “an incredible job” and that the country would miss her, while confirming her husband’s diagnosis as the driving factor in her decision to step away.

Gabbard’s tenure as DNI will officially end on June 30. In the interim, Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence Aaron Lukas — a veteran intelligence officer with over 20 years of experience — will serve as acting DNI.
