US Army Unveils ‘Hammer Of The Gods’ In First Overseas Test
The U.S. Army has tested a new electronic-warfare system with a name fit for a battlefield warning: “Hammer of the Gods.”
The system is designed to quietly disrupt the positioning and navigation signals that enemy precision weapons need to hit targets from long range.
The Army, Navy and Space Force tested the technology during Project Convergence Capstone 6, a major modernization experiment aimed at preparing U.S. forces for the next generation of warfare.
The maritime version of the system made its debut at sea off the U.S. West Coast in mid-July, marking the first time that variant was tested in an ocean environment.
Land-based versions have been demonstrated over the past two years, but the maritime test showed the system could be launched, operated and recovered in real-world conditions at sea.
“Hammer of the Gods” is a portable, low-signature emitter built to interfere with positioning, navigation and timing signals, including GPS data.
Those signals are critical for precision-guided weapons such as long-range artillery, guided missiles and cruise missiles.
Take away reliable navigation data, and the enemy’s expensive precision weapons become far less precise.

That could mean delayed missions, missed targets and less confidence for adversaries trying to strike U.S. forces from a distance.
The technology also helps friendly troops stay connected when enemies try to jam American communications.
By linking military devices together, the system is meant to help U.S. forces continue to “shoot, move and communicate” even in degraded electronic environments.
The test brought together the U.S. Army, Navy and Space Force, along with U.S. Space Forces Pacific, Naval Base San Diego and the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command.
The goal was to blend space, cyber and conventional military capabilities during a realistic joint experiment.
The Army’s push comes as modern battlefields are being reshaped by drones, electronic warfare and GPS-guided weapons.

Ukraine’s war against Russia has shown how quickly cheap drones, signal jammers and precision strike systems can change the fight.
For the U.S. military, that lesson is not theoretical.
America’s adversaries are watching the same battlefield and racing to build weapons that can find, track and strike U.S. troops from farther away.
“Hammer of the Gods” is meant to make that harder.
Instead of simply trying to shoot every incoming weapon out of the sky, the system targets the information those weapons rely on before they reach their destination.
That gives commanders another way to protect troops, ships and key installations in a fight where the first side to lose its data may lose the strike.
Project Convergence Capstone 6 ran from July 20 to July 29 at Fort Irwin, California, and focused on testing future technologies in more complex battlefield conditions.
The Army said the event was part of its broader effort to modernize how U.S. and allied forces fight across land, sea, air, space and cyberspace.
For troops on the front line, the practical purpose is simple.
Keep American forces connected.
Blind the enemy’s weapons.
And make sure the next long-range strike misses its mark.
