NEW: JD Vance Humiliates Longtime Fox News Personality With Brutal Post

Vice President JD Vance dusted off his social media gloves this week, landing a playful jab on Washington Post columnist and longtime Fox News analyst Marc Thiessen after the pundit mocked young Americans complaining about sky-high burrito prices.

Thiessen told those grumbling about $20 burritos to “cry me a river,” dismissing concerns about the cost of food as younger voters continue to rank affordability among their biggest issues.

“The burritos in the college cafeteria are included in your meal plan,” Thiessen further jabbed on X in response to Turning Point USA’s Andrew Kolvet discussing a student’s complaint about the price.

Vance quickly entered the chat.

“I’m surprised to hear Mark say this. If you’ve ever met him in person, it’s quite obvious the man has never missed a burrito.”

The wisecrack marked a return to the vice president’s old habit of mixing politics with online humor, something he had largely stepped away from in recent months.

But beneath the burrito banter is a real debate inside the Republican Party over how conservatives should address the rising cost of everyday life.

A chicken burrito with black beans, brown rice and roasted chili-corn salsa at a Chipotle location in Illinois currently costs about $9.65 before taxes. A similar burrito cost roughly $6.50 in 2015.

A receipt that went viral last year showed two chicken bowls and one chicken burrito with guacamole costing $21.45 in 2015. The same order was later estimated at $30.80 before taxes.

Inflation has also pushed up the cost of housing, college tuition, health care and energy. One dollar in 2019 now requires roughly $1.33 to buy the same amount of goods.

Inflation rose 3.5% during the one-year period ending in June, remaining above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target.

Polls have consistently shown affordability near the top of voters’ concerns, with 57% of Americans describing the problem as a full-blown crisis in one Guardian survey.

Vance has generally sided with the GOP’s populist wing, which argues that leaders should take those concerns seriously rather than lecture families about budgeting while prices keep climbing.

More traditional free-market conservatives have emphasized personal responsibility and warned that tariffs and other populist policies can also add to consumer costs.

Vance has argued that the deeper problem comes from decades of bipartisan economic policy that weakened American manufacturing and left working families exposed.

“I think what it shows is that the past 40 years of economic policy, bipartisan economic policy, has failed,” Vance told Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

“What I think is actually going to happen is these socialist candidates, they’ve caught the tail end of an economy that wasn’t working for most Americans,” he added. “Unfortunately for them, the Trump economy has made long-term investments in rebuilding that manufacturing base.”

President Donald Trump also defended his economic record during a Wednesday appearance in Nevada.

“Costs are coming way down,” Trump said. “I took over the country, the prices were through the roof. In my first day, the press said, ‘What are you going to do about affordability?’ It was a word they devised: affordability. They never used that word before.”

The disagreement between Vance and Thiessen extends beyond food prices. Thiessen has criticized JD Vance’s handling of Iran, while the vice president has long opposed the interventionist approach favored by establishment Republicans.

Vance had mostly avoided social media brawls in recent months, later explaining that he removed X from his phone for Lent.

He said he eventually wanted to return so he could be exposed “to unfiltered raw opinions, and that’s one of the things that I need to hear as a political leader.”

Judging by his latest burrito-themed comeback, Vance is once again ready to serve up those opinions with a side of political heat.
