Fox News Viewers Outraged Over Personality’s Comments On Lindsay Clancy Trial

Former U.S. Senate candidate Tiffany Smiley is facing intense backlash online over comments she made on the Lindsay Clancy murder trial. Clancy admitted to strangling her three young children before jumping out a window in an apparent suicide attempt, but has argued she cannot be held criminally responsible due to claims of postpartum psychosis.

Clancy has acknowledged strangling the children with exercise bands while her then-husband, Patrick Clancy, was away on errands. She then cut her wrists and neck and jumped from a second-story window in a suicide attempt that left her paralyzed from the waist down.

The defense has argued that Clancy lacked criminal responsibility due to postpartum depression and psychosis, as well as effects from prescribed medications. Prosecutors have maintained that the actions were deliberate and premeditated. The trial, which began in late July, has included testimony from Patrick Clancy, medical professionals, and others regarding Clancy’s mental health history in the months leading up to the incident.

With the trial wrapping up, Smiley is facing intense criticism for stating that her “heart breaks” for Lindsay Clancy following an appearance on Fox News’ Outnumbered.

“My heart breaks for Lindsay Clancy. I hate that it took a tragedy like this to talk about women’s mental health and postpartum depression. Too often, it is swept under the rug. Our healthcare system has failed women. Many women are given the baby, told good luck, and thrown out on the street. These are real issues that impact tons of new moms,” Smiley posted on X alongside a short clip from the segment. “And it can lead to psychosis that gets worse with each child. The only way it changes is by addressing a healthcare system that is overwhelmed and unaccessible.”

Smiley’s post was soon inundated with a large numbers of replies and quote posts on X, the overwhelming majority of which were negative. “Not a single mention of the three children who Lindsay strangled,” political commentator Lauren Chen posted. Chen’s response post garnered more than 12,000 likes, while Smiley’s post had just under 500 as of this report.

“My heart breaks for HER CHILDREN and THEIR FATHER,” said conservative lawyer and legal analyst Will Chamberlain.
