NEW: Trump Honors Dolly Parton With Extraordinary Move After Her Death

President Donald Trump ordered American flags lowered to half-staff nationwide Tuesday following the death of country music legend Dolly Parton.

The White House tribute will begin at 6 p.m. and continue for one week, Trump announced in an emotional Truth Social post mourning the Tennessee-born superstar.

“Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

He continued, “In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you.”

Parton died Tuesday in Nashville at age 80. Her family announced her death, though an exact cause was not immediately disclosed.

The country queen built a nearly six-decade career that took her from poverty in rural Tennessee to the highest reaches of American entertainment.

Parton penned thousands of songs and became a global sensation behind enduring classics including “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors” and “I Will Always Love You.” She sold more than 100 million records worldwide and earned 11 Grammy Awards.

Her talents also carried her onto the big screen, where she starred in hits including “9 to 5” and “Steel Magnolias.” Parton later turned her unmistakable image and business instincts into an empire that included the Dollywood theme park in her native Tennessee.

Away from the stage, Parton poured millions into charitable causes and launched the Imagination Library, which has distributed free books to children around the world.

Her warmth, quick wit and fiercely independent streak helped make Parton one of the rare cultural figures embraced by Americans across generations and political divides.
