NEW: Letitia James Faces Major Consequences After Whistleblower Exposes Trump Witch Hunt

New York Attorney General Letitia James is facing fresh scrutiny after a whistleblower from inside her office met for hours with federal investigators over explosive claims that he was pressured to target President Donald Trump and his allies.

Daniel Wiesenfeld, a former Brooklyn prosecutor and an attorney in James’ office, sat down Tuesday with criminal and civil lawyers from the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice, according to sources cited by The New York Post.

The meeting reportedly lasted “several hours,” signaling that federal authorities are at least examining allegations that James’ office may have crossed a line from law enforcement into partisan political targeting.

Wiesenfeld, who has since been placed on paid administrative leave, made the allegations in a since-deleted email to colleagues that was later leaked.

He claimed his boss, Investor Protection Bureau Chief Shamiso Maswoswe, instructed him “to find and pursue crimes” by Trump allies.

Wiesenfeld drew a direct comparison between the accusations Democrats have repeatedly leveled at the Trump administration and what he says was happening inside James’ own office.

“If you believe Trump is using the Department of Justice attorneys to prosecute his enemies to further his political interests, you should find it equally troubling that Tish [James] is doing exactly the same thing,” the email allegedly said.

He then urged colleagues not to allow the attorney general’s office to become a vehicle for political retaliation.

“I ask you that you not serve as Tish’s personal attorneys by targeting her political enemies,” it said. “Instead, I hope you choose to prosecute crimes and find the individuals accountable, rather than targeting individuals and then finding crimes.”

The allegations strike directly at James, who has spent years fighting Trump in court while Democrats accused the president and his allies of weaponizing the justice system.

James’ office attempted to contain the fallout by describing the controversy as “a personnel matter.”

“The office of the attorney general is committed to upholding New York’s laws and protecting the rights and freedoms of all New Yorkers, regardless of political beliefs,” the statement said. “We strongly reject any assertion to the contrary.”

The attorney general’s office did not immediately respond to an additional request for comment Wednesday.

Wiesenfeld has also remained publicly silent since the allegations surfaced.

One of his attorneys, Levi Stoep, said his client “has no public comment at the current time.”

The Trump White House wasted little time blasting James over the allegations and pointing to them as further evidence of politically motivated lawfare.

“This is more proof of the weaponization of the justice system by Letitia James to target President Trump and her political opponents,” White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis said. “The far-left Democrats’ lawfare against President Trump, his family must stop.”

James and Donald Trump have been bitter political enemies for years, long before the latest whistleblower allegations surfaced.

During her 2018 campaign for attorney general, James vowed to “prosecute the president for crimes committed in New York State” if elected.

Once in office, she launched a civil fraud case against Trump, his two oldest sons and the Trump Organization, accusing them of inflating property values to obtain favorable financial terms.

A state judge ruled in James’ favor in 2024 and initially ordered Trump to pay more than $350 million in penalties. The ruling was later upheld on appeal without the massive financial penalty.

The newest allegations now raise an entirely different question: whether political hostility toward Trump influenced how James’ office pursued potential investigations.

Maswoswe, the bureau chief identified in Wiesenfeld’s allegations, also has her own history with the Trump administration.

She was fired from the Justice Department during Trump’s first term and later sued the agency, alleging race, gender and parenting discrimination.

The case was settled for $795,000 in 2023 under the Biden administration, one year after she joined Letitia James‘ office.

Federal authorities have not publicly announced charges or accused James or Maswoswe of criminal wrongdoing, and the full scope of the investigation remains unclear.

But with a whistleblower now sitting down directly with FBI and Justice Department attorneys, what James’ office dismissed as a personnel dispute has become a much bigger problem for one of Trump’s most aggressive political adversaries.
