Meghan And Harry Melt Down After Humiliating Snub By King Charles
King Charles has drawn a firm line under Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal status, making clear that the couple remain private citizens and non-working royals despite their return to Britain.
The move reportedly caught the Duke and Duchess of Sussex off guard and triggered an immediate response from their camp after the King’s position was formally circulated to senior officials.
Charles instructed the Lord Chamberlain to write to more than 100 senior figures across government, the military and other institutions to reiterate that Harry and Meghan’s status has not changed.
The guidance also reminded recipients that their HRH styles remain in abeyance.
The clarification followed reports that Harry and Meghan were preparing to take on more public-facing roles after returning to the U.K., including charity work and possible military-related appearances.
Royal author Robert Jobson said the Palace appeared determined to shut down any suggestion that the Sussexes were quietly drifting back toward quasi-royal duties.
‘It has only been a couple of weeks since the Duke and Duchess returned to Britain but already there were reports of Meghan planning to do charity work and Harry taking on military commitments – as pseudo royals. It seemed a kind of mission creep.
‘In the light of this it was felt that it was important for the King to clarify that nothing has changed with regard to the Duke and Duchess and that – at their own elective choice – they became and remain private individuals and not working royals.
‘Perhaps predictably there was an immediate response from the couple. But don’t expect to see anything similar coming from the palace.

‘The King has no intention of being drawn into responding further. He very pointedly made this clarification via the Lord Chamberlain to relevant individuals and bodies rather than in the form of a briefing to the media.
‘The very last thing he will be minded to do in the light of their briefing a reaction to the media is to respond in kind. So there won’t be any war of words, if you will.
‘The King has made his position clear and will now draw a line under it.’
The Sussexes were reportedly given little notice before the guidance became public.
The contents were shared with their team at 1:59 p.m., according to the report, with the Palace’s guidance released to the media at 3:06 p.m.

Team Sussex responded at 2:19 p.m. asking whether the guidance had already been distributed and seeking time to clarify several points.
Harry was reportedly in a meeting and was not informed until 3:09 p.m., after the letter had already been prepared.
His team then received confirmation at 3:11 p.m. that the guidance had already gone to the media.
A spokesman for Harry and Meghan said: ‘We were a little surprised not to have been told about this in advance.’
The exchange has fueled fresh speculation that tensions between the Sussexes and the Royal Household remain far from settled, despite the couple’s recent return to Britain.

The timing is especially sensitive because Prince Harry is still waiting for a decision over whether his family will receive taxpayer-funded security while living in the U.K.
The Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures is expected to consider the Sussexes’ security arrangements after a threat assessment is completed.
The Lord Chamberlain’s letter reiterated the King’s earlier position that Harry and Meghan Markle‘s return would not restore their previous place inside the working monarchy.
It read: ‘It follows that there is no change to the current status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
‘Their styles as His and Her Royal Highness remain in abeyance and are not used.
‘The charitable work of the Duke and Duchess is a personal matter for them both and undertaken in their private capacity. In short, their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.’
Harry and Meghan stepped away from royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States, where they pursued commercial ventures, media projects and charitable work outside the monarchy.
The couple has now returned to Britain for what has been described as an extended period, with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet enrolled in British schools.
