‘DEMOCRAT PLOT’: Trump Erupts After Bombshell Butler Files Change Everything

President Trump wants consequences for the FBI director he once picked to run the bureau, blasting Christopher Wray on Tuesday over the investigation into the assassination attempt that nearly cost him his life.

“Dirty Cop Christopher Wray should pay a price for the way he handled this assassination attempt, and certainly for the things he said.”

The demand, posted on Truth Social, targeted an official Trump nominated during his first administration on the advice of former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Now, Trump is accusing the bureau Wray led of failing to properly investigate Thomas Crooks, the gunman who opened fire at his July 13, 2024, campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“Everybody knows the Crooked Joe Biden FBI didn’t do what they should have with respect to the Lunatic who shot me in Butler, PA,” Trump wrote.

Trump’s comments followed new reporting about Crooks’ behavior at home and the steps he took to prepare for the shooting.

According to new documents, Crooks’ quiet demeanor troubled his father. The gunman also made purchases under the pseudonym “Bob Dole,” concealing his identity as he assembled materials ahead of the attack.

Trump argued that the information should have surfaced much earlier. He also alleged that records had been lost or compromised before his second term began and described the assassination attempt as a “Democrat plot” against his campaign.

“By the time I got into Office, on January 20th, most of the information was missing, altered, corrupted, or gone. New info was just found! Why wasn’t it seen long ago? This was all a Democrat Plot, to get me out of the Election, that failed,” the president added.

The allegations go beyond what the newly reported details establish. Information about Crooks’ preparations does not itself demonstrate Democratic involvement or the destruction of investigative records.

The Butler shooting left Trump wounded in the ear, killed rallygoer Corey Comperatore, and seriously injured two other spectators. Crooks fired from a nearby rooftop before a Secret Service sniper killed him.

The attack also exposed failures in the operation assigned to protect Trump. At a July 2024 House Oversight Committee hearing, lawmakers from both parties demanded then-Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle’s resignation after she failed to answer key questions about the security breakdown.

The FBI separately investigated Crooks’ preparations and possible motive. In an August 2024 update, investigators said they had found no evidence of co-conspirators or foreign involvement and had not identified a definitive ideology behind the attack.
