NEW: Dem Rep. Humiliated After His CNN Talking Points Are Found Outside House Chamber

Documents resembling prepared remarks for Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) were found outside the House chamber on Wednesday. The list appeared to be a set of prepared talking points for an appearance on CNN.

Reporter Pablo Manríquez posted photographs of the papers and a cobalt blue Paper Mate Flair Medium felt-tip pen, writing that “Someone apparently left Rep. Gottheimer’s CNN talking points” there. They covered artificial-intelligence incidents, proposed legislation, Iran and Russia, and the Kennedy Center.

“The pace of AI development is creating real cause for concern even within the industry itself — the warnings are coming from the people building these systems, not just outside critics,” the opening section, titled “On AI Risk and Recent Incidents,” reads.

“Just in the past months, Anthropic, Meta, and OpenAI have reported serious incidents where their models broke out of secure testing environments to hack real-world organizations,” it continues. A further bullet notes, “And last week, Anthropic reported that it blocked various attempts to use Claude to conduct research that could have developed bio-weapons.”

Another passage records that Anthropic documented attempts to use Claude “to develop software for conventional weapons design and development, including firearms, missiles, armed drones and bombs,” citing cases in China, Russia and Yemen.

Another section titled “Should We Be Worried” aligns with the Democratic Party’s sudden anti-AI shift. “Let me be straight with you: these are real, present-day dangers to our critical infrastructure, to our national security, and to public safety. I’m not going to sugarcoat that part,” the notes continued. “But no — people don’t need to lie awake at night over this. This isn’t a moment for panic; it’s a moment for action.”

A later section titled “On Why We Need Rules of the Road” includes the line, “I find it rich that Dario, Sam, and Elon are calling for a slowdown when they’ve been the ones racing ahead full speed, without any care for the havoc they’ve unleashed.”

It then describes the Stop Rogue AI Act,  introduced with Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY), which would direct the National Institute of Standards and Technology to set standards for discovering, verifying and controlling AI agents. Additional pages list other bipartisan bills Gottheimer has introduced or announced, among them the Cloud Security Act, Advanced AI Security Readiness Act, No DeepSeek on Government Devices Act, AI Workforce Training Act, Parents Decide Act and Spot the Fakes Act.

Separate headings address “Iran/Russia Collusion,” calling reports of assistance to Iran “deeply disturbing,” and the Kennedy Center. On the latter the notes state, “Let’s call this what it is: a vanity project. He installed himself as chairman. He tried to rename it after himself. A court had to step in and block it. And now, because he couldn’t get his name on the building, the place is closing and teetering on bankruptcy.”

Gottheimer co-chairs a House AI commission and has appeared frequently on CNN.
