College Football Players Stabbed By Illegal Migrant

A Nigerian national accused of overstaying a tourist visa has been charged with murder after two University of Massachusetts Dartmouth football players were stabbed during an altercation in Providence, Rhode Island, leaving one dead and another wounded.

Chukwunonso Uzoma David Uzoma Eze, 19, is accused of fatally stabbing freshman running back Marvins Antoine and injuring fellow freshman football player Kensley Macean early Saturday morning.

Providence police said the violence followed an altercation involving people who had been inside or near Mezzo Lounge before the confrontation spilled into a nearby Wendy’s parking lot.

Antoine suffered a stab wound to the chest and was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Macean suffered stab wounds to his head and neck but survived. Authorities said his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Eze, who is also a UMass Dartmouth student but was not a member of the football team, was later located and taken into custody by university police.

Federal law enforcement sources told Fox News that Eze entered the United States from Nigeria on a B-2 tourist visa in 2015 and remained in the country after his authorized stay expired.

According to the report, Eze received two extensions under the Obama administration before eventually overstaying the visa.

He later received deferred action, a discretionary immigration measure that can temporarily delay removal but does not itself provide lawful immigration status.

Federal sources said Eze applied for deferred action again in February 2025 and October 2025, with the latter request approved on Oct. 8, 2025.

The Department of Homeland Security also said Eze applied for employment authorization in August 2023, but that application was rejected the following month.

He applied again for employment authorization in February 2025 based on deferred action, according to DHS, and that request remained pending.

Authorities have not alleged that Eze’s immigration status played a role in the stabbing.

Eze appeared Monday in New Bedford District Court in Massachusetts, where he pleaded not guilty to a fugitive-from-justice charge and agreed to be extradited to Rhode Island to face the murder case.

Providence police said the deadly confrontation began after a dispute involving students who had been at the nightclub earlier that night.

Investigators have not publicly announced a motive for the stabbing.

Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez said authorities are focused on holding the person responsible accountable and supporting Antoine’s grieving family.

“I want to bring justice to the family of Antoine. I couldn’t begin to think about how difficult it must be for them to have the need to mourn the loss of their child,” said police chief Oscar Perez at a Saturday news conference ahead of legal proceedings.

Hundreds of students, teammates and members of the UMass Dartmouth community later gathered for a candlelight vigil honoring Antoine.

The university said there was no continuing threat to campus following the arrest.

Eze remains accused of murder, and the charge against him has not been proven in court.
