Ilhan’s Own Words Come Back To Haunt After Raid On Her DC Home
Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar’s past remarks about the rule of law are coming back to haunt her after federal agents raided her Washington, D.C., home Monday morning, triggering a wave of backlash from Republicans who were quick to remind the congresswoman of her own words.
The Minnesota Democrat previously declared that “no one is above the law” following President Donald Trump’s indictment in 2023. Now, with Omar herself facing federal scrutiny, conservatives are throwing that statement right back at her.
Agents with Homeland Security Investigations executed a court-authorized search warrant at Omar’s residence early Monday as part of an ongoing criminal investigation reportedly involving immigration paperwork completed by her late father.
The Justice Department confirmed the operation, although officials have not publicly disclosed the specific allegations being investigated.
“Today in the Washington, D.C., area, Homeland Security Investgations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation,” a DOJ spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
The department subsequently confirmed that the investigation was criminal in nature.
But it didn’t take long for Republicans to seize on the political irony.
The Minnesota Republican Party resurfaced Omar’s previous remarks about Trump’s legal troubles, questioning whether she still stood by the same principle now that federal investigators were searching her own home.
STATEMENT FROM MINNESOTA REPUBLICAN PARTY CHAIR ALEX PLECHASH
“Today, federal agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant at Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s home as part of an ongoing investigation.
Rather than issue our own statement, we’ll defer to Rep. Omar. She said it best back in 2023, when the subject of a criminal investigation was someone else:
‘Our democracy rests on the rule of law. When someone—no matter how powerful they are—is suspected of a criminal act, our justice system investigates, charges, and convicts them in accordance with due process.’
‘Now it is up to all of us, as citizens and elected leaders, to support accountability and to follow the facts where they lead.’
‘No one is above the law.’We couldn’t agree more, Congresswoman. We’re sure you still feel the same way now that it’s your front door. Minnesotans will be watching closely, and so will we.”

“Rather than issue our own statement, we’ll defer to Rep. Omar,” the Minnesota Republican Party posted on X. “She said it best back in 2023, when the subject of a criminal investigation was someone else.”

The Trump War Room account joined the pile-on, posting Omar’s words back at her.
“No one is above the law,” the account wrote.
Conservative commentator LibsofTikTok also highlighted the judicial authorization behind the search.

“It was an authorized search warrant approved by a federal judge as part of a criminal investigation,” the account posted. “No one is above the law.”
Townhall columnist Dustin Grage added another pointed response.
“Ilhan Omar was right,” he wrote. “Nobody is above the law.”
Omar, however, wasted little time accusing the Trump administration of using federal law enforcement to intimidate political opponents.
“I’m ok,” Omar wrote on X hours after the search began. “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.”

“For ten years, Donald Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns,” she continued. “This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.”
The investigation comes after years of controversy surrounding Omar’s immigration history, including allegations of immigration fraud that she has repeatedly denied.
Her financial disclosures have also faced scrutiny, although authorities have not established that those filings are connected to Monday’s search.
Democrats have condemned the raid as politically motivated, particularly because it occurred just weeks before the November midterm elections.
No criminal charges against Omar have been announced, and a search warrant does not establish wrongdoing.
Still, Republicans have found an opening in the congresswoman’s own rhetoric. The same Democrat who once insisted that nobody should escape legal scrutiny is now demanding answers about a federal investigation at her doorstep.
