Country Star Under Fire For Vicious Comments About Christopher Columbus
Country music star Kacey Musgraves is facing backlash after launching into a profanity-laced tirade against Christopher Columbus during a Texas concert, leaving critics wondering when paying for a concert ticket started coming with a political lecture.
The 38-year-old singer took aim at the legendary Italian explorer during a Sunday performance at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, where she interrupted her show to discuss Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
Video circulating on social media captured Musgraves addressing the audience before unleashing her unfiltered opinion of the historical figure.
‘Yeah, that’s right, on this day? What day?’ Musgraves asked as concertgoers shouted back, ‘Indigenous Peoples’ Day!’
The Grammy-winning performer quickly escalated her remarks.
‘Obviously f**k Columbus. Literally the lamest person to probably ever exist. Like for real. What a loser.
‘What a loser Christopher Columbus, we hate you!’
The outburst sparked a heated debate online, with critics accusing the country singer of turning a musical performance into another celebrity political soapbox.

Columbus Day, observed annually on the second Monday in October, commemorates the Italian explorer’s 1492 voyage across the Atlantic and holds particular significance for Italian Americans celebrating their heritage.
Columbus remains a controversial historical figure because of his treatment of Indigenous populations, including enslavement and forced labor. Indigenous Peoples’ Day has gained recognition as an alternative observance.
But some fans argued that Musgraves’ sweeping condemnation showed little interest in the historical complexities surrounding the explorer.
‘No Columbus, no ocean crossing, no America for a Texas girl to get rich singing in. The lamest man to ever exist is the whole reason Kacey Musgraves has a stage to curse him from.’

Another critic questioned how much research the singer had actually done before delivering her remarks.
‘I wonder how much she has studied Columbus, or is she just repeating the latest social criticism?’
Others were less interested in debating history and more frustrated with celebrities injecting politics into entertainment.
‘I hate it when entertainers think we care about their political views. Automatically isolates a large portion of their audience.’

‘omg just shut up and sing girl nobody is there to listen to anything other than your songs.’
Musgraves also received support from fans who applauded her comments and praised her recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
The controversy comes amid another politically charged clash involving Musgraves and former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
The feud erupted after Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico attended Musgraves’ Dallas concert and shared a photograph with the singer.
Noem responded by expressing her preference for fellow country artist Ella Langley and Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton.
‘I’ll take @ellalangleymsic over Kacey Musgraves any day. And if I’m choosin’ Texas, I’ll take Ken Paxton over James Talarico,’ Noem wrote.
Musgraves fired back with a personal jab referencing Noem’s controversial admission that she shot her 14-month-old dog, Cricket.
‘I don’t think you have a dog in this fight but if you did you would have shot it.’
Noem previously defended her decision, explaining that the dog had killed livestock and displayed aggressive behavior.
With her latest Columbus Day comments, Musgraves has once again found herself at the center of a political firestorm.
