NEW: Democrats Get Brutal Sign In Michigan As Midterm Races Enter Final Stretch
Republican Mike Rogers is beating Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in the fight for contributions from donors who backed Rep. Haley Stevens in Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary, according to an analysis by The Donor Class.
Among Stevens’ donors who contributed to either nominee after her defeat, more gave to Rogers. The Republican also took in most of the money that group contributed to the two candidates.
That gives Rogers a fundraising bright spot in a close Michigan Senate race. A Marist poll conducted Oct. 15-18 showed El-Sayed leading 50% to 48% among likely voters, within the survey’s margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points.
The two are competing to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Gary Peters. Flipping the seat would give Republicans a crucial win in the battle for Senate control.
The donor analysis examined roughly 6,500 itemized contributors to Stevens’ primary campaign. As many as 983 gave to one of the two nominees after her loss in the Aug. 4 Democratic primary.

The Donor Class matched Stevens’ itemized primary donors in Federal Election Commission filings against contributors to Rogers and El-Sayed between Aug. 4 and Sept. 30, the end of the latest filing period.
Most of Stevens’ donors had not given to either candidate during that stretch. Among those who resumed giving, however, the Republican attracted more donors and more dollars than the Democratic nominee.
The findings do not establish where Stevens’ primary voters will land in November. But they show El-Sayed has fallen short of Rogers in winning financial backing from the portion of her donor base that contributed to either general election campaign.
