BREAKING: House Votes To Advance Biden Impeachment Resolution

On Thursday, the House cast a vote of 219-208, forwarding Lauren Boebert’s resolution to impeach President Joe Biden to the Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees.

H. Res. 503 is a resolution in the US House of Representatives to impeach President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., submitted on June 13, 2023, by Representative Boebert and co-sponsored by Representatives Gaetz and Crane. The resolution alleges that Biden has committed “high crimes and misdemeanors,” which is the standard set by the US Constitution for impeachment.

The next step for the impeachment resolution is a review by the Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees. These committees will evaluate the evidence presented in the resolution and may conduct additional investigations or hearings to gather more information.

After the committees complete their review, they can choose to report the resolution back to the full House of Representatives with a recommendation. This recommendation could be to adopt the resolution (which would initiate impeachment proceedings), reject it, or take no action.

If the committees recommend adopting the resolution and the House agrees, then the impeachment proceedings would begin. This includes debates and a vote on each article of impeachment. If a majority of the House votes in favor of one or more articles, the President is impeached.

However, impeachment by the House is only the first step in removing a President from office. If the President is impeached, the process then moves to the Senate, which conducts a trial. If two-thirds of the Senators present vote to convict on any of the articles of impeachment, the President is removed from office.

The resolution contains two Articles of Impeachment, each detailing alleged misconduct by the President.

Article I: Abuse of Power accuses President Biden of abusing the powers of the presidency by presiding over an executive branch that has, according to the resolution, violated federal immigration law by implementing an “aggressive, open-borders agenda.”

The resolution alleges that the President has knowingly released over 2 million undocumented immigrants into the United States without ensuring they appear in immigration court. It also accuses the President of facilitating an “invasion” at the southern border, ending the Migrant Protection Protocols, closing detention facilities, and refusing to cooperate with state and local law enforcement in border security. It alleges that President Biden has allowed asylum seekers to enter the US despite knowing they did not qualify for asylum.

Article II: Dereliction of Duty accuses President Biden of neglecting his constitutional duty by refusing to enforce the nation’s immigration laws and secure the southern border. The resolution alleges that this has endangered the security of the United States and the health and safety of its people.

It claims President Biden has overseen the largest influx of illegal immigrants in American history and has presided over historically low numbers of deportation cases. The resolution also states that President Biden has allowed control of the border to fall to criminal cartels, resulting in a threat to the lives of American citizens. It accuses the President of failing to uphold mandatory detention and deportation provisions of immigration laws, resulting in the entry and continued presence of undocumented immigrants.

The resolution concludes by asserting that these actions warrant President Biden’s impeachment, trial, removal from office, and disqualification from holding any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States.
