‘Biased And Unfair’: Trump Quotes Judge Presiding Over J6 Case To Prove Her Bias

During a scorching TruthSocial rant on Sunday night, Donald Trump shredded Judge Tanya Chutkan and proved her bias in the January 6th case against him. Trump pointed out that a court document showed her previously saying, “IT’S A BLIND LOYALTY TO ONE PERSON WHO, BY THE WAY, REMAINS FREE TO THIS DAY.” The context to that statement was Judge Tanya Chutkan speaking toward another January 6th defendant and complaining about that defendant’s “blind loyalty” toward Trump who “remains free to this day.”

Chutkan was recorded fully by Trump as saying, “I SEE THE VIDEOTAPES. I SEE THE FOOTAGE OF THE FLAGS AND THE SIGNS THAT PEOPLE WERE CARRYING AND THE HATS THAT THEY WERE WEARING, AND THE GARB. AND THE PEOPLE WHO MOBBED THAT CAPITOL WERE THERE IN FEALTY, IN LOYALTY, TO ONE MAN, NOT TO THE CONSTITUTION, OF WHICH MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO COME BEFORE ME SEEM WOEFULLY IGNORANT; NOT TO THE IDEALS OF THIS COUNTRY, AND NOT TO THE PRINCIPLES OF DEMOCRACY. IT’S A BLIND LOYALTY TO ONE PERSON WHO, BY THE WAY, REMAINS FREE TO THIS DAY.”

Trump followed this up by writing, “The following TRUTH is a quote by highly partisan Judge Tanya Chutkan, angrily sentencing a J-6er in October of 2022. She obviously wants me behind bars. VERY BIASED & UNFAIR!”

Trump was not the only person observing that the judge had a record of making prejudicial remarks about the defendant. Julie Kelly wrote on X that “[t]oday Judge Tanya Chutkan warned Trump’s lawyers that politics had no place in her courtroom or in this case. But here is Judge Chutkan berating a J6er during a sentencing hearing in Oct. 2022. She clearly expressed anger that Trump was still “free” and not behind bars.”

She then attached the select portion of the court document which showed the relevant text that Trump later cited. Kelly also noted that the judge bought in uncritically to all the narratives about January 6th. She wrote “More from Judge Chutkan as she sentenced a woman who pleaded guilty to obstruction (spent 30 min in Capitol, no violence) to 15 months in prison” and highlighted a portion of text from a court document that recorded the judge remarking that January 6th “was nothing less than an attempt to violently overthrow the government…by individuals who were mad that their guy lost.”

Julie Kelly acknowledged that Trump appeared to be aware of her remarks. She tweeted that “I see Trump and others are cribbing my post from a few days ago.”

It is not only the judge’s past remarks and rulings that have rattled some about Chutkan’s ability to be fair. Robert Barnes, a constitutional lawyer, observed of the recent comments by the judge denouncing Trump’s public defense of himself that “[t]his is a completely false statement of law by the Jamaican-born judge whose political ancestry were hard core communists — you have a right to defend yourself in the court of public opinion, not just the courtroom.”
