BREAKING: Elon Musk Says He Is Prepared To Go To Prison To Defend Free Speech On X
X owner Elon Musk did not mince words when asked what he would do if pressured by the federal government to censor an important story or information. The tech mogul stated that he would never bow down to censorship demands and is prepared to go to prison if necessary.
Musk was speaking in an X space with conservative journalist Jack Posobiec, who cited the infamous censorship of the bombshell Hunter Biden laptop story just before the 2020 election.
The laptop — which contained thousands of emails detailing Hunter Biden’s business dealings and drug-fueled escapades — was released just weeks before the 2020 election. It was promptly censored by major social media companies, including Facebook and Twitter, to the point where users could not even share links through direct messages. Both Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey have confirmed that they were pressured by the FBI to censor the story, which had an enormous impact on the 2020 election.
“If they started reaching out again, would that be something that you or the team, and no, I can understand if you don’t want to answer now, but you would consider making public?” Posobiec asked.
Musk set the internet on fire with his answer, saying “If I think a government agency is breaking the law in their demands on the platform, I would be prepared to go to prison personally if I think they are the ones breaking the the law.”
Musk previously released internal Twitter communications in one of the “Twitter Files” releases, which revealed that Twitter was working with an in-house former FBI employee to shape content moderation.
Former Twitter Trust and Safety Chief Vijaya Gadde was the driving force behind the story’s removal, which was met with concern by a number of Twitter employees. The company cited its “hacked materials policy,” was well as a bogus letter signed by a number of retired intelligence official, in its decision to censor the laptop due to a debunked “Russian disinformation campaign.”
