‘The Chosen’ Series Announces ‘Holy Night’ Special In Time For Christmas
“Christmas with The Chosen: Holy Night” has premiered in theaters, bringing a much-needed perspective to the story of Jesus’ birth. The special, running from December 12-17, is not just a film, but a journey through the eyes of a young mother and a shepherd boy, characters often overlooked in traditional nativity narratives.
“The Chosen” is a television drama series that portrays the life of Jesus Christ. The show is notable for being the first multi-season series about the life of Christ, and the biggest crowd-funded TV series project. It was created, directed, and co-written by American filmmaker Dallas Jenkins.
The series is unique because it presents the story of Jesus Christ through the perspective of the people who interacted with him, like the disciples and other figures from the New Testament. This approach allows the series to explore the backstories and experiences of these individuals, providing a more in-depth look at the biblical narrative.

The special is a creative amalgamation of two episodes from “The Chosen” series – “The Messengers” and “The Shepherd.” The episodes have been remastered and re-scored to offer a seamless and more impactful narrative. Adding to the allure are two new monologues and a captivating performance of “O Holy Night” in French by Andrea and Matteo Bocelli.
Dallas Jenkins, the creator and director of “The Chosen,” initially crafted “The Shepherd” as a short film with his church, filmed on a friend’s farm in Illinois. Despite facing setbacks with his previous project, Jenkins found his calling in these short films inspired by the Bible. The pilot episode eventually led to the creation of “The Chosen,” a series that has now captivated millions worldwide.

“I had the same reaction to the trailer as I did when we first blended The Shepherd and The Messengers together. Tears,” explained Jenkins, The Chosen’s creator. “This Special captures the joy and meaning of the Jesus story more than anything we’ve done:”
“The Chosen” series, which began as a pioneering crowd-funded project, has evolved into a global sensation. With more than 10 million social media followers and over 600 million episode views. The series is on track to become the most translated series in history, with plans to subtitle it in more than 600 languages.
“The Chosen” is produced by VidAngel Studios and has garnered attention for its high production values and its approach to storytelling, which combines historical context with creative narrative elements.
“In Hollywood, you don’t put together two opposing production values into the same piece of content. It’s jarring,” Katherine Warnock, vice president of original content for The Chosen told Newsweek. “Yet, when we put together the first rough edit, we thought it was just magical. It’s gritty; it’s authentic; it’s our origin story.”
“We would love to become a family tradition every year at Christmas. What I love about Hollywood is that there’s room for a plethora of content,” Warnock said. ‘Next year, we have a long list of artists we’d like to work with. There’s no litmus test.”
