WATCH: Steve Bannon Drops Hint About Trump’s 2024 VP Pick
Former Trump White House chief strategist and current host of War Room Steve Bannon predicted that Trump will pick a female running mate during a conversation with former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.
“Let’s just start with Tucker Carlson. Would he make a good vice president?” Spicer asked. “I think Tucker would make a great vice president,” Bannon replied, adding that Carlson has a “very clear vision of what MAGA and America First are.”
“He’s savvy in politics. And he’s got something that’s so important in today is the ability to communicate. Trump shows us more than anything, the ability to communicate those ideas to a mass audience is very important,” Bannon said. “Now, if you ask me, he was a likely candidate now, I don’t think so, because I am adamant or not adamant. My thinking is very structured that I believe President Trump will have a female as the vice president.”
The former Trump White house advisor went on to add that he believes people like Tucker Carlson and Ben Carson would be great choices before reiterating that Trump is likely considering a woman for the position. When asked for a list of potential candidates, Bannon stressed that the America First movement needs to “make sure it ain’t Nikki Haley.”
Haley — who is currently challenging Trump for the presidential nomination — served in the former president’s administration as UN ambassador. Her hawkish rhetoric on Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as the proposal of sweeping “national security” measures such as mandatory ID to access social media, has put her at odds with the base, however.
Despite this, Trump has signaled that he is open to selecting Haley as a running mate, adding that he “always liked Nikki.”
Other names brought up in the past include South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) and Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).
