Woke ‘Green Day’ Singer Brutally Roasted By Elon Musk After Anti-Trump Meltdown
The 2023 “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” was marred by politics for many when punk-turned-progressive rock band Green Day opted to pivot from the Anti-Bush, Anti-Iraq War protest song American Idiot to an indictment of the “MAGA agenda.”
Shortly after, Elon Musk rushed to call out the band for its hilariously tone-deaf hypocrisy.
Responding to a post from ‘Not the Bee’ on X, Musk brutally excoriated Green Day and frontman Billie Joe Armstrong by obliquely comparing them to another, once anti-government, anti-authority act that transformed to a corporate-friendly, Democrat-endorsing shell of itself.
Musk wrote,

Ooof. And Musk was the large stone that set off the avalanche. X user ‘Clandestine’ summed up the obvious dissonance nicely, “They promote the side that is in favor of censorship, political weaponization of government, government control of the private sector, election fraud, psychological manipulation, government-run media, forced medical experimentation… Who wants to tell him?”

As The American Tribune noted, Green Day essentially fell from the public eye during the entirety of the 8-year Obama administration, fading into the background for nearly a decade, only to emerge once again with the election of President Donald Trump in 2016.
Armstrong, still working to look boyish and edgy at nearly 50 (at the time) made headlines by (wait for it) comparing Trump to Adolf Hitler when he said according to Fox News, “The worst problem I see about Trump is who his followers are. I actually feel bad for them because they’re poor, working-class people who can’t get a leg up. They’re just p—ed off, and he’s preyed on their anger. He just said, ‘You have no options, and I’m the only one, and I’m going to take care of it myself.’ I mean, that’s f—ing Hitler, man!”
While Musk was hardly the first to call out Armstrong and his over-the-hill corporate-sponsored mock-punk band, his criticism did hit very, very hard. There are though, several honorable mentions who arrived at the party first. Chaya Raichik of Libs of TikTok promptly deemed Green Day‘s antics “So stunning and brave,” while soundboard virtuoso of Louder With Crowder Yakuza Casey observed, “But kept the lyrics ‘one nation controlled by the media.'”
However, the best comment may have been from, of all places, the Republican Party of Idaho when they wrote, “Old enough to remember when Green Day’s messaging was anti-war. Now they embrace the pro-war-machine Democrat agenda?”
