JUST IN: Brian Kemp Responds To MTG’s Request For Criminal Probe Into Fani Willis

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, once an ally of former President Donald Trump, has shot down a request from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to launch an investigation into Fani Willis, the Fulton County district attorney prosecuting the former president on racketeering charges.

Kemp on Thursday dismissed Greene’s request for a review by his office and asked that she refile the criminal complaint with a state oversight committee which is responsible for reviewing allegations of prosecutorial misconduct.

“The Congresswoman has every right to refer her complaint to the oversight commission once the legislative process concludes this session and the commission begins full operations,” a Kemp spokesperson told Breitbart News. “Just last year, the Georgia General Assembly laid out a specific oversight process for district attorneys that is transparent and unbiased, which the governor supported and signed into law.”

Georgia’s Committee on Government Oversight is responsible for disciplining prosecutors up to the point of removing them from office. Created in 2023 by the Republican Legislature, the commission faced immediate pushback from liberal DAs and criminal advocates who claimed interference in prosecutorial discretion.

Despite declining to follow up on Rep. Greene’s request, Gov. Kemp’s office stated he is aware of the timely nature of a review if DA Willis is to be scrutinized before her case against Trump can go to trial.

“These allegations are deeply troubling and evidence should be presented quickly,” the spokesperson added. “Georgians must have confidence in our legal system and its procedures, and these allegations — in addition to the lack of direct response from District Attorney Willis — jeopardize that confidence.”

Allies to the president scorched Kemp for his decision.

“That’s bulls***,” said Mike Davis, a Republican operative close to Trump’s world. “He has statutory power right now to order a criminal investigation.”

Rep. Greene added her concern that an investigation would be delayed by the commission.

“Governor Kemp and our state Attorney General Chris Carr need to step in and do the job that they have the power to do, and that is to launch a criminal investigation into Willis and Nathan Wade,” she told Breitbart.

“What I’m focused on is the fact that I believe our governor and our state attorney general should use their power,” she continued. “They have the power to go after a state district attorney who is abusing her power to go after the former president of the United States.”

Noting 18 other co-defendants who are relying on a speedy investigation into Willis, Greene added, “These people are being drained of money while they’re having to pay lawyers. They have incredible stress in their lives and their families’ lives,” she said. “This is affecting real people in Georgia.”

DA Willis has come under fire over allegations that she secretly carried on a romantic relationship with a special prosecutor in her office who earned more than $700,000 while investigating President Trump. Attorneys for one of Trump’s co-defendants have asked the presiding judge to unseal the prosecutor’s ongoing divorce case, claiming Willis is implicated in documents that prove she has tainted her handling of the Trump case.
