OJ Simpson Announces Tragic Personal News

Former football star and acquitted murderer OJ Simpson has been diagnosed with cancer, according to a report from WPLG Miami.

Simpson, 76, was diagnosed with prostate cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment in Las Vegas, sources familiar with the matter told the outlet.

As news of the diagnosis spread, Simpson took to X to shoot down rumors that he had been placed in hospice care. “Hospice? Hospice? You talkin’ about hospice?” Simpson said in a video statement uploaded to X, referencing NBA Hall of Famer Allen Iverson’s iconic “practice” press conference.

“No, I’m not in any hospice. I don’t know who put that out there, but whoever put that out there, I guess it’s like the Donald say, can’t trust the media,” he continued. “In any event, I’m hosting a ton of friends for the Super Bowl here in Las Vegas. All is well, you know. So hey guys, take care. Have a good Super Bowl weekend.”

After his Hall of Fame NFL career came to an end, Simpson was famously acquitted in the double murder trial of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman. The trial is largely viewed as the first highly televised trial, leading to its nickname, “the trial of the century.”

In a separate case more than a decade later, Simpson was convicted by a jury in Las Vegas and sentenced to prison for leading a gang of five men — two of whom were armed — in an attempt to steal sports memorabilia at an off-strip Vegas casino.

Simpson was ultimately convicted in the Vegas case and was sentenced to nine years in Nevada prison. He was eventually released from prison on October 1, 2017, and was later released from parole in December 2021.
