Dominion Voting Systems threatens Sidney Powell with defamation lawsuit
Pro-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell is facing a defamation lawsuit and demands to retract her claims about Dominion Voting Systems.
Powell, a conservative pro-Trump attorney, has made what Dominion believes to be “wild, knowingly baseless, and false” allegations based in conspiracy that the 2020 election was rigged in favor of Joe Biden and essentially stolen from President Donald Trump, preventing his reelection.
Dominion Voting Systems sent a letter to Powell pushing back on her claims.
The letter, obtained by Insider, also takes aim at the Trump campaign and right-wing media outlets like Fox News, Newsmax, and the Rush Limbaugh show. It says Powell made “wild, knowingly baseless, and false accusations” on “behalf of the Trump Campaign as part of a coordinated media circus and fundraising scheme.” (Business Insider)
Thomas A. Clare, Dominion attorney, stated that Powell is entitled to her opinion, but not her own version of the facts. Specifically, Clare wrote “While you are entitled to your own opinions, Ms. Powell, you are not entitled to your own facts.” He continued with “As a result of your false accusations, Dominion has suffered enormous harm, and its employees have been stalked, have been harassed, and have received death threats,” Clare wrote. “For the safety of Dominion’s employees and for the sake of the truth and confidence in American democracy, we demand that you immediately and publicly retract your false accusations and set the record straight.” (ABC News)
Trump’s legal team and pro-Trump attorneys like Sidney Powell have suffered court losses in over 60 lawsuits that were filed. Their attempts to discredit the 2020 election have gone viral on social media, but they have fallen flat in court where the outcome is critical.
28 states used Dominion voting machines this year, and some of them were states that Trump won.
