Armed Military Veteran Thwarts Would-Be Jewelry Store Robbery In Nebraska

An armed military veteran foiled an attempted jewelry store robbery in Omaha, Nebraska last weekend.

Garrett Peddicord, a goldsmith and owner of Sidrony Jewelers, told local outlet KETV that he was working late when he heard his window shatter shortly after 11:30 p.m. last Saturday. When he looked up, he saw someone jumping through the broken window on his security cameras.

Surveillance footage shows the would-be burglar dressed in all black before and after the entry. It appears he believed the store would be closed, leaving an opening for a smash-and-grab robbery.

Peddicord, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, said his military training came in handy with what came next. “Thank my lucky stars that I put so much thought and time and repetitive training and practice into how to responsibly carry a firearm,” he said.

After the man entered the store, an armed Peddicord sprung up from his chair and shouted, “hey!” The warning was enough to get the man to flee through the shattered window.
