NFL Legend Dies Suddenly At 52

Larry Allen, celebrated as one of the Cowboys’ all-time greats and possibly the finest offensive lineman ever in the NFL, has passed away. Allen sadly died at the age of 52 during a family vacation in Mexico on Sunday.

Born in 1971, Allen has been widely recognized as one of the greatest offensive linemen in NFL history. He played most of his career with the Dallas Cowboys, earning a reputation for his exceptional strength and versatility on the line. Allen was drafted by the Cowboys in 1994 out of Sonoma State University and quickly became a key figure in their offensive line, contributing to their Super Bowl XXX victory.

The Dallas Cowboys shared in a statement on Monday:

The Dallas Cowboys are very saddened to share that Cowboys legend, Super Bowl Champion, Cowboys Ring of Honor member, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Allen passed away suddenly while on vacation in Mexico with his family on Sunday. Larry, known for his great athleticism and incredible strength, was one of the most respected, accomplished offensive linemen to ever play in the NFL. His versatility and dependability were also signature parts of his career. Through that, he continued to serve as inspiration for many other players defining what it meant to be a great teammate, competitor and winner.

He was deeply loved and cared for by his wife, Janelle – whom he referred to as his heart and soul, his daughters Jayla and Loriana and son, Larry III.

The Jones family and the Cowboys extend their deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers to the Allen family and grieve along with the many other friends and Cowboys teammates that also loved Larry.

Memorial service arrangements and details will be announced in the near future.

Known for his ability to play both guard and tackle positions, Allen’s performance earned him multiple Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections. He also played for the San Francisco 49ers before retiring. His career accolades include being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

Allen was famous not just for his skills on the field but also for his remarkable strength; he was known to have one of the highest bench press records in the NFL.
