Stephanopoulos Humiliated By Trump At Fox News Town Hall, Crowd Goes Wild
Former President Donald Trump roasted ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos during a Fox News town hall on Wednesday, joking about the former Clinton advisor’s height and the network’s penchant for partisanship ahead of a planned presidential debate on September 10th.
Referring to him as “Slopodopoulos,” the former president lit into the man whom he is suing for defamation after Stephanopoulos repeated false statements that Trump was “found liable for rape.” The case hinges on specifying that the reporter ignored the fact that a judgment against Trump in the E. Jean Carroll case was civil rather than criminal by nature. Despite the thorny legal entanglement, Trump hasn’t refrained from mocking his mainstream nemesis and predicting that debate moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis will be “dishonest.”

The Fox town hall crowd roared with laughter at President Trump’s nickname for the reporter. “He’s a nasty guy. I’ve had him up to here,” he said, raising his arm to the middle of his chest. The crowd exploded again. “But let me tell you. He’s a very, very bad kind of a guy, but I watched his interview with Joe Biden it was like the softest interview I’ve ever seen. It was softer than the CNN interview of Kamala.”

The Harris campaign on Wednesday backed down from its insistence that microphones in the first debate be left unmuted, a tactic they hoped would encourage President Trump to speak over the vice president and turn off female swing voters. The change is in keeping with the terms of a first debate between Trump and Biden on June. 27th when the Democratic incumbent demanded that Trump not be allowed to commandeer the discussion with open microphones.
Stephanopoulos was the first reporter to interview President Biden after his disastrous debate performance. The conversation fueled speculation about Biden’s health and stamina to survive a second four-year term, and Stephanopoulos was even caught on the street telling a passerby that Democrats were making a mistake by running the 81-year-old again. “I don’t think he can serve four more years,” he said off-camera before quickly walking away. Stephanopoulos quickly walked his comment back in a statement from ABC News. “Earlier today, I responded to a question from a passerby. I shouldn’t have,” Stephanopoulos said at the time. An ABC spokesperson added, “George expressed his own point of view and not the position of ABC News.”

Earlier this summer, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu’s endorsement of President Trump prompted Stephanopoulos to express his incredulousness that formerly anti-Trump Republicans were lining up behind the party’s nominee. Megyn Kelly singled him out, saying reporters like Stephanopoulos are “struggling” to find an “outrage vein” line of attack. “It’s amazing,” Kelly said, referencing the ABC reporter’s impaired understanding of Republicans. “Like, he doesn’t get it. He doesn’t get it!”
“Like, the right half of the country doesn’t see these things as rising to the level of criminality,” she continued according to the Daily Caller. “They haven’t been treated as crimes when we had the so-called insurrections by the Democrats challenging elections or turning over police stations as we talked about earlier. Setting them on fire, courthouse as well. All just completely ignored.”
“They’re having trouble finding their outrage vein on these Trump behaviors because it’s so one-sided. Even the documents case. Your guy did that too! Your guy did that and he took the documents when he wasn’t even president, George. I will say, I don’t think Sununu was all that effective in responding to it, but it was just a complete skewering by an unfair journalist,” Kelly said. “And by the way, why do Republicans keep going on these shows? Because you’re just there to be their little… right? Show pony.”
