JUST IN: Hunter Biden Caves, Will Change Plea To GUILTY
Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, has reportedly decided to plead guilty in his ongoing tax fraud case. This comes after earlier legal efforts by his attorneys to dismiss the case or at least delay the proceedings. The plea change marks a significant development in a case that has caught widespread media attention, with many speculating about its outcome and the potential consequences for the Biden family.
Hunter, 54, was initially charged with three felony counts and six misdemeanors related to his failure to pay at least $1.4 million in federal taxes from 2016 to 2019. Despite having earlier pleaded not guilty, Biden’s legal team plans to inform a federal judge in Los Angeles on Thursday that there is no need to continue with jury selection, as their client intends to change his plea to guilty.
This is not the first time Hunter Biden has faced legal troubles. In June, he was found guilty in a separate case related to his illegal purchase of a handgun in 2018. At that time, Hunter was accused of lying about his drug use on a federal gun purchase form, as he was actively using crack cocaine during the period in question. That case was tried in U.S. District Court in Delaware, where Biden is still awaiting sentencing.

Defense lawyer Abbe Lowell informed U.S. District Judge Mark Scarsi that jury selection need not continue. “There is no reason to proceed with jury selection as Mr. Biden intends to change his plea,” Lowell said just before jury selection was set to begin according to CNBC. “I think this can be resolved today,” Lowell said.
Prosecutors from David Weiss’ office expressed their intention to oppose an Alford plea, as stated by Prosecutor Leo Wise during a court hearing. Wise indicated that it was the first he had heard of any potential plea from Lowell’s remarks in court. According to Lowell, no plea agreement had been reached that would involve Hunter pleading guilty to certain charges in return for the dismissal of others.
The only proposition extended to Hunter’s legal team involved him pleading guilty to all nine counts. Joe Biden has consistently maintained that he will not issue a pardon for his son in any of his legal matters. Although it remains unclear if the president’s stance might change following his decision not to seek reelection, he retains the power to pardon or commute sentences. In July, Joe Biden enlisted Los Angeles attorney Mark Geragos for his defense team. Abbe Lowell, who previously led the defense in Biden’s gun case in Delaware, is expected to yield the primary role to Geragos in handling the tax case.
Hunter has faced various legal issues over the years, drawing significant public scrutiny. He has been investigated for tax-related issues, with accusations of failing to report income from foreign business interests, including his time on the board of a Ukrainian energy company. Additionally, Hunter was charged with illegal possession of a firearm while being a drug user. He admitted to struggles with substance abuse, which fueled controversy during his father’s political career. In 2023, a plea deal related to tax evasion and a gun charge fell apart in court, prolonging the legal saga. Republicans have used Hunter’s legal challenges to expose Joe Biden, alleging improper influence in the justice system.
