Beloved Actor Found Dead At 89

Peter Renaday, famed for voicing Master Splinter in the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” TV series, has passed away, according to TMZ. Following a welfare check at his Burbank residence on Sunday, law enforcement discovered his body.

Sources indicate that his death seems natural and will not require an investigation by the medical examiner. Renaday’s niece, Mindy Zachary, disclosed to TMZ that the cause of his death remains uncertain. She said that the air conditioning in Peter’s home had malfunctioned, and amid Los Angeles’ recent heatwave, indoor temperatures soared into the 90s.

While the exact cause, whether heatstroke, natural causes, or another factor, is unclear, Mindy said that the family believes no further investigation into Peter’s death is necessary.

Renaday, born in 1935 in New Iberia, Louisiana, was a celebrated American actor renowned for his voice roles, notably as Master Splinter in the original “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” series from 1987 to 1996. The beloved animated series aired for 10 seasons, following the adventures of four ninja turtles—Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael—who, through the guidance of their rat sensei, Master Splinter, fought to maintain peace and justice in the sewers and streets of New York City.

With its blend of action, humor, and memorable catchphrases, the series became a cultural phenomenon, spawning a wide range of merchandise, movies, and a dedicated fan base that endures to this day.

Renaday also was Abraham Lincoln in various projects including “The Hall of Presidents” at Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World. His career spanned several decades, with early roles in films like “The Love Bug” and “The Aristocats.” His versatility was evident as he lent his voice to characters in “The Rescuers”, “The Black Cauldron”, and more recently in “Mulan” and “Shrek.” His television work included significant voice roles in series such as “The Transformers,” “Gargoyles,” and “The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.”

Renaday was married to Florence “Flo” Daniel, who worked at Walt Disney Studios and predeceased him in 2011. His contributions to voice acting, particularly in animation and theme park attractions left a lasting legacy in the entertainment industry.
