The tragic circumstances surrounding the cast of the hit series “General Hospital” continued into its next fateful chapter on Thursday after another member was found dead.

Ron Hale, the affable 78-year-old actor who played Mike Corbin on “General Hospital,” passed away on August 27th according to an obituary, the New York Post reported. No cause of death was listed by family members who paid tribute with warm words through Bryant Funeral Home. “He was always humble and genuine,” Mary Riser wrote. Sandye Jackson, a local who lived alongside Hale, wrote of Hale, “He was one of my nicest customers at Ace! Always smiling and genuine! So sorry to hear that he passed away… My heartfelt condolences to the family.”

Born in January 1946, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Hale attended Furman University in South Carolina where he majored in drama before going on to pursue a career in stage, television and movies. In addition to his recurring role on “General Hospital,” Hale hit it big while playing Dr. Rodger Coleridge on “Ryan’s Hope,” a 1970s series about two Manhattan bar owners. He was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and early participant in Columbia’s Trustus Theatre started by his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Kay Thigpen.

A social media account for the soap opera show paid tribute to their fallen friend on Thursday. “The entire General Hospital Family is saddened to hear of Ron Hale’s passing,” an account for “General Hospital” wrote on X. “We would like to extend our condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time. He was an incredible actor and an unforgettable colleague. May he rest in peace,” the statement added.

Actor Billy Warlock, who played Frankie Brady on the show, wrote movingly, “It’s with a heavy heart that we’ve lost another great one. My dear friend Ron Hale has passed away. Ron was an amazing talent and an even better friend. I will miss you.”

Tragedies within the “General Hospital” cast have continued for most of 2024. In March, Robyn Bernard, who played a lead role as Terry Brock, was found dead in a field behind a business in San Jacinto, California, leaving detectives and fans alike speculating about the circumstances of the 64-year-old’s death. Then in May, Johnny Wactor, the actor who appeared in 160 episodes of the long-running medical drama, was shot and killed in downtown Los Angeles in the early hours of Saturday morning. His mother Scarlett told TMZ that her son was out with a friend when they confronted three men who had surrounded Wactor’s vacant car in what appears to be an attempted theft of a catalytic converter, according to police descriptions of the trio. Four individuals were later arrested. That same month, the GH family lost Elizabeth “Betsy” MacRae Halsey who passed away at 88.
