Jackie Chan Responds To Fans’ Concerns Over His Health
Legendary actor and martial artist Jackie Chan took to Instagram over the weekend to assure fans that his weathered look is not all it appears to be.
According to the Daily Caller, Chan thanked his legions of fans for reaching out with questions and concerns about his health. Chan, who celebrated his 70th birthday on Sunday, said his wrinkles and white hair are part of a costume he is donning for an upcoming role.
“Even before today, many friends have been reminding me: ‘Jackie, it’s going to be your 70th birthday!’ Every time I hear this number, my heart would stop for a second – l’m 70 years old already? After recovering from the shock, the second thing that would come to my mind is a saying that my big brother, Sammo Hung once said: ‘being able to grow old is a fortunate thing.’ Especially for us stunt people, we don’t know how lucky we are to be able to grow old,” Chan wrote.
“Not so long ago, a lot of friends saw some recent photos of me on the internet, and they were all concerned about my health,” Chan continued. “I want to take this opportunity to let everyone know, don’t worry! It’s just a character appearance for my latest movie. The character requires me to have white hair, white beard and look old.”
“Over the years, I’ve always been willing to try new things for a movie, no matter if it’s a challenging stunt or a breakthrough appearance for a character. I’ve been in the entertainment business for 62 years and I cherish every moment because I’m lucky I’m still filming today.”
A staple of Hollywood action films for decades, Chan has taken a step back in recent years from leading roles, serving as executive producer on dozens of projects spanning both the U.S. and Chinese markets.

Among his future acting credits, Chan is rumored to be taking on the role of kung fu master Mr. Han in a remake of “Karate Kid,” which is set for release next year. “Rush Hour 4,” which would likely see him opposite Chris Tucker for the newest installment of the hit series, is also rumored to be in the works, according to Chan’s IMDB page.
The actors wrapped up his reassuring post with a big thank-you to those who wished him a happy birthday on Sunday.
“A big thank you to everyone for all your birthday wishes. Hope everyone stays happy and healthy,” he wrote.
