Not all that glitters is golden for former ‘Real Housewives of New York City’ luminary, Bethenny Frankel. On Thursday, Frankel said she has post-traumatic stress disorder from her prolonged divorce from ex-husband Jason Hoppy and their custody dispute over daughter Bryn.

“I’ve been burned. I have massive trust issues, and I have post-traumatic stress disorder. It was literally the most traumatizing thing I will hopefully ever go through in my life,” she said in her most recent episode of her “Just B” podcast. The former ‘Real Housewives’ star, 53, described her 10-year divorce as “more tortuous” than grieving the death of a loved one.

Frankel gained fame as a cast member on the reality TV show and is also known for her Skinnygirl brand, which includes cocktails, clothes, and other products. Additionally, she has written several self-help and diet books and has been involved in philanthropic efforts, particularly through her disaster relief initiative, BStrong.

“I thought I would never survive it. I did not see a way out,” she said according to PageSix. “It was suffocating. I thought I was gonna be miserable for the rest of my life.” Frankel also described her prolonged divorce as “mental and emotional torture” and recalled feeling like a “powerless, tortured” person. “I have had every single fu*king thing except for physical abuse done to me, and I am an expert on this topic,” she claimed.

“I have been through a f*cking war… a war. I have questioned myself as a human, as a parent, because I was told so many times otherwise how terrible I was and disgusting and old and irrelevant and so abused, because I had no power to get out of it.”

Jason Hoppy, the ex-husband of Frankel, came into the public eye through his marriage to her. The couple’s relationship and later issues, including their marriage, the birth of their daughter Bryn, and their contentious divorce, were highly publicized, especially given Frankel’s status as a reality TV star and entrepreneur. Their divorce, filed in 2013, was noted for its length and acrimony, drawing significant media attention.

“How a person who is so smart and so successful could make such poor judgment calls and decisions or just not know or just have a bad hand, but it’s been a journey, so I’m ready to discuss it,” she said. Frankel made it clear that their daughter, now 13, “knows all about” the details of the divorce. As a result, she believes she is now able to speak about it “thoughtfully and carefully” with the public. She further mentioned that her divorce trauma has impacted her current relationship with fiancé Paul Bernon, to whom she has been engaged on and off since 2018.

“It’s why I have not gotten married again, or I’m not sure if I would ever get married again.”
