Americans Overwhelmingly Approve Of Trump’s Riot Response, Poll Finds

A sizable majority of Americans approve of President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy National Guard personnel in California in response to coordinated attacks and federal agents and multiple days of violent rioting.

President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he would be deploying 2,000 California National Guard troops after Los Angeles officials failed to quell the unrest. That number later surged to 4,000 as the unrest continued, while the president has also dispatched 700 U.S. Marines from Camp Pendleton.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a lawsuit aimed at rescinding the deployment, while Governor Gavin Newsom and other prominent Democrats have framed the move as an authoritarian overreach.

Americans disagree with that framing, however, according to a new survey from Insider Advantage.

The poll surveyed 1,000 likely voters between June 9 and 10 with a margin of error of 3.3 percent. “What is your opinion of President Trump’s decision in recent days to deploy National Guard and federal military in downtown Los Angeles?” voters were asked.

In total, 59 percent of respondents expressed support for the president’s decision as opposed to 39 percent who disapproved. An additional two percent remain undecided.

When breaking down for party affiliation, an overwhelming majority of Republican respondents, 89 percent, expressed approval. 56 percent of independent respondents also expressed support for the decision, as did 37 percent of Democrats.

The poll comes on the heels of another shocking survey from CNN that found Trump’s approval rating skyrocketing among immigrant and foreign-born voters. Foreign-born voters “have gone tremendously to the right” on immigration in 2024 and 2025 compared to 2020, CNN’s Harry Enten explained. Back then, Democrats held a 32-point advantage among non-native voters.

“Jump forward to 2024 and 2025, look at that shift — a 40-point shift to the right among immigrant voters! Republicans now lead on this issue by 8 points over Democrats on this issue. More so than any other group that I could find,” he continued. “The group of voters who became more hawkish on immigration were in fact immigrants themselves, immigrants who were registered to vote in this country.”

Another recent poll from YouGov, a left-leaning pollster, found that a majority of Americans feel that the president’s deportation agenda is prioritizing dangerous criminals. A healthy 54 percent of respondents say they stand behind Trump’s immigration policies, while 46 percent disapprove.

On balance, 42 percent believe the president’s immigration agenda is making the U.S. safer, while 30 percent disagreed.
