Amy Klobuchar Under Fire After Old Post Comes Back To Haunt Her
Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) is facing backlash after expressing outrage over the arrest of a Wisconsin judge accused of obstructing a federal immigration arrest—comments that many are calling hypocritical in light of her own past statements.
Earlier Friday, the FBI arrested Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan on charges of obstruction. According to FBI Director Kash Patel, Dugan “intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the subject to be arrested in her courthouse, Eduardo Flores Ruiz, allowing the subject — an illegal alien — to evade arrest.” The suspect was later apprehended following a foot chase.
“The Judge’s obstruction created increased danger to the public,” Patel added in a statement posted to X.
Judge Dugan becomes the second judge in recent months to face federal consequences for allegedly aiding illegal immigrants. Last year, former New Mexico Judge Joel Cano resigned after officials discovered a suspected gang member illegally residing in his home.
He has since been banned from ever serving in a judicial capacity again. And during Trump’s first term, a Massachusetts judge was federally charged—though those charges were later dropped by the Biden administration—for a similar incident involving ICE.
Yet it was Klobuchar’s reaction to Dugan’s arrest that turned heads on Friday.
“This is not normal,” the Minnesota Democrat posted. “The Administration’s arrest of a sitting judge in Wisconsin is a drastic move that threatens the rule of law… this is a grave step and undermines our system of checks and balances.”

Journalist Stephen L. Miller posted a screenshot of a 2022 tweet from Klobuchar in which she declared, “In the United States of America, no one is above the law,” juxtaposing it with her current outrage over the arrest of a judge allegedly obstructing law enforcement.
Critics were quick to accuse Klobuchar of abandoning her own principles. Harmeet Dhillon, a prominent attorney, responded directly: “No one is above the law, Senator.”
In 2022, Klobuchar referenced a report by that highlighted her remarks following the FBI’s search of then-former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence and the FBI investigation.
Additionally, on December, 2022, Klobuchar expressed her gratitude to the January 6 Committee members, tweeting: “We owe every single member of the January 6 Committee a thank you. No one is above the law, and the people who threaten our democracy must be held accountable.”
While many Democrats have championed sanctuary policies and shown reluctance to cooperate with ICE, Republicans have increasingly argued that federal immigration law must be enforced without local interference—especially from the judiciary.
Now, President Trump’s administration has adopted a much more aggressive stance toward federal immigration courts. The Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) has removed more than two dozen immigration judges since February, a move EOIR’s acting director Sirce Owen defended as a necessary correction.
