Anonymous Chinese Donors Have Flooded University Hosting Biden’s Think Tank with Tens of Millions in Donations Since His Inauguration

Because of the discovery of classified documents from his time as Vice President inside it, the University of Pennsylvania’s Biden Center, and indeed U Penn itself, have been under increasing scrutiny. And what has been found is that the university has, since Biden left the White House in 2017 and the U Penn Biden Center was opened, accepted tens of millions of dollars in donations from the Red Chinese.

Particularly, it was discovered that U Penn itself had, shortly after Biden left the White House and started doing speaking events for U Penn and the Biden Center, accepted millions in donations from anonymous Chinese donors. The New York Post reported on that donation inflow, saying:

The Ivy League college raked in a total of $54.6 million from 2014 through June 2019 in donations from China, including $23.1 million in anonymous gifts starting in 2016, according to public records.

Most of the anonymous donations came after the university announced in February 2017 that it would create the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement. Joe Biden, whose term as vice president had just ended, was to lead the center and was also named a professor at the university.

[…]The Ivy League university received $15.8 million in anonymous Chinese gifts that year, including one eye-popping $14.5 million donation in May 2018, records show.

But, according to a recent, startling but not-so-surprising report in the Washington Free Beacon, it’s not just in 2017 and 2018 that the Chinese flooded U Penn with donations. They have done so since his inauguration too, as the Washington Free Beacon reported, saying:

Since President Joe Biden took office in 2021 anonymous Chinese donors have poured millions of dollars to the university that houses President Joe Biden’s think tank, where at least 10 classified documents were identified.

Since Biden’s inauguration, the University of Pennsylvania has received $51 million in foreign funding, including $14 million from unnamed contributors in China and Hong Kong and $2.4 million from unnamed contributors in Saudi Arabia, according to Department of Education records reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon. The school also received $1 million from a source in the Cayman Islands in June to fund its Penn Wharton China program.

This funding is in addition to the $61 million that the University of Pennsylvania received from Chinese donors between 2017 and 2020, which was reported by the Free Beacon in 2021.

But, unsurprisingly, we don’t get to know who those donors are because the Biden Administration is keeping them hidden, as the Washington Free Beacon also reported, sayingThe names of the newer foreign donors are being kept under wraps by the Biden administration’s Department of Education—a departure from prior administrations that would publish this information in an online database. American universities that receive federal grants are required by law to disclose their overseas funders to the government.

So Biden’s think tank is hosted by a university that was flooded with tens of millions not only once he left the White House, but also once he re-entered it. And it’s where classified foreign policy documents were kept for years without oversight or scrutiny.
