Another Left-Wing Media Outlet Just Quit Twitter After Being Labeled “Government-Funded”

Last week, National Public Radio quit Twitter after the platform labeled it “state-affiliated media,” before changing the label to “government-funded media.”

Now, another left-wing outlet is calling it quits on the platform after being dished the same label. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation – which reportedly receives over two-thirds of its funding from the government – tweeted its reaction to its new badge of shame, saying that the company has paused activities on the main account.

“CBC/Radio-Canada has paused activities on its corporate and news Twitter accounts, after the social media platform put a “government-funded media” label on its @CBC account in its latest move to stamp public broadcasters with designations,” CBC News Alerts tweeted Monday.

After the CBC claimed it was only partially funded by Canada’s government, Musk hilariously changed the label on the outlet’s account to read “69% Government-funded Media.”

Musk’s “Twitter Daily News” explained why the decision was made, including data from the CBC’s own annual report from 2021-2022, which shows the outlet’s vast funding from the Canadian government.

#GoodbyeCBC is now trending on Twitter.
