AOC Compared To Kamala After Embarrassing Moment In Latest Speech

Published

on

A winding speech by “Squad” Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) briefly lost its hold over legions of liberal listeners after some viewers drew attention to a curious new accent she adopted in the middle of her remarks, a criticism frequently deployed last year against former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Speaking from a rally stage in Idaho, the Bronx Democrat joined socialist U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for the latest junket on their “Fight Oligarchy” tour, the latest attempt by Democrats to push back against sweeping changes by the Trump administration. AOC, known for her bare-knuckled battles within her own party as much as those waged against President Donald Trump, lost some luster in her latest attack after she code-switched mid-speech.

“Donald Trump is a criminal who was found guilty of 34 felony counts of fraud, liable for sexual abuse – of course he’s lying and abusing and manipulating the stock market too. When he talks about rapists and criminals, he should look in the mirror!” cried the Squad progressive over cheers from the 12,000 member crowd.

Replays of the moment left listeners wondering whether AOC suddenly conjured a new accent out of thin air.

Some compared her rally voice to that of Hillary Clinton during her time as first lady and later a 2008 presidential candidate when she adopted an authoritative tone while promising to deport illegal immigrants convicted of crimes. Others speculated that AOC may be testing out a new stage voice ahead of a 2028 presidential bid, a prospect she hasn’t tried to tamp down.

‘Oh look, AOC is doing the interchangeable accents to fit the demographic she’s in front of. Did she take notes from Kamala?’ one conservative critic asked.

“AOC pulled out a new accent. She’s definitely running in 2028. No doubt in my mind,” another said.

A third added: “AOC pulls from the Kamala Harris playbook, debuts a brand-new accent during a rally last night as she weighs a potential 2028 Presidential campaign.”

Before and during her 2024 campaign, Harris garnered criticism from cultural critics who accused her of oscillating between white and black accents, as shown in a clip from a 2023 White House ceremony.

On another occasion, Harris appeared to deploy an ebonics-inflected accent during a “Saturday Night Live” appearance, one she reintroduced on the campaign trail while stumping in front of a black church congregation.

In another cringeworthy moment from their rolling rally, Sanders, 83, stated the 32-year-old lawmaker is like a “daughter” to him during their Salt Lake City appearance, the Daily Mail reports.

Polls gauging the 2028 contest show AOC nipping at Harris’s heels. The veep leads the field with 28%, according to Yale Youth Polling, but the Squad member isn’t far behind at 21%.

Harris has told allies that she is giving herself until the end of the summer to decide whether she wants to run for the open California governor’s seat next year, a perch she has mused would afford her the publicity to take on Trump before running to succeed him.
